I think the failure on both sides is grasping how one might define God, in which case, a person might say God doesn't exist, simply because they fail to grasp that God could be more than their definition. On the other side, one might say God exists and be wrong due to their own misconception about it. Either way, it has been proven the mind is predisposed to "needing" a form of higher power... Even if one chooses to define their beliefs haphazardly. They did so by merging the existentialist's phenomenological method of thought, with the teachings found in the Buddha's suttas, and uncovering his original teachings. You have everything you need now, to pursue the most rewarding intellectual and philosophical path possible. The door is open for you.

There are plenty of double blind studies that have been done about these things. I'll cite UDV vs The federal government. It was when the UDV won the right to use ayahuasca in their sacramental ceremonies because it was proven to be physically harmless as well as psychologically non damaging.
