street fighting/ self defense thread: what does /b/ think is most efficient or effect system/martial art to use to defend yourself or fight outside of competition?
>Training and competing in mma. 5 years mma,13 years muay Thai, 1 year krav maga. I teach the junior Thai classes, some beginners classes, and i personal train the paranoid uni students in mma catered towards self-deference for £45 ($65) an hour.
> what are some of your favorite techniques you have actually used and why?
>what do/did you train and how long for?
>any stories or experiences? ill give my 2 cents too.
>>684422819
Shotokan for 5 years, Palé wrestling for 4 years, Krav maga for 1 year, not a martial art but tackle football for 8 years. Tore my mcl in Wrestling twice, turns out I dislocate very easily. Can't wrestle any more and probably shouldn't fight, feels bad man.
>>684422819
O and the first time my mcl tore in was in practice before a tourny, wrestled the tourny and came out with bronze, leg was dislocating as I was half nelsoning a guy
>>684423379
fuuuuck fuck that shit man. hows everyday walking?
>>684422819
years of sitting at pc
watched a fair amount of fighting vids
played alot of strategy games
im living at the first floor therfore i do work out
can eat twice as much as an average person
ma nigga,the real question is
woud you stand a chance against me?
>>684422819
anything on the ground is shit for street fight; you're opponent might have back up around and just not a good idea
muay thai for 5 years, boxing for 3, and jui jitsu mixed with mma on and off for a couple of years. not really worth mentioning though, havent done it enough
not really any stories, just train in case of a fight and to look good
favorite technique is jump knee and then back elbow, usually knocks out very quickly
>>684422819
Martial arts - krav maga
Strength - basic weight training
Power - rugby league or other heavyily physical sport
Precision/ stand up technique - boxing
I boxed for about 2 years and i currently study krav maga twice a week, rugby train twice a week and go to the gym 3-4 days a week.
I dont claim to be the best figther by a long shot, but damn will i give you something to remember me by if you do fight me.
>>684423557
Everyday walking is good now since I strictly followed physio but need to wear a brace when I do anything like hiking, longboarding, running. The joint is super lax now.
>>684423673
yeah, but if you have to, ide rather have it than not. i feel the initial takedown itself and a couple follow up shots are more safe than the control factor itself. us mma guys can sometimes exaggerate how safe controling on top can be. like you say, what if he has a buddy
>>684422819
diplomacies a pretty good one, you know, using your words and reason and shit
>op here
massive dump of hugely biased supeperioty complex opinion inbound soon lads
Krav Maga is very good. Adds illegal moves not allowed in mma, (although don't assume mma fighters don't know how to use them) as well as weapons defense, multiple attackers, concrete, situation awareness ect. It teaches you mma to a level that is useful, you will be competent ENOUGH In mma I suppose, and if your school is very very good they MAY offer mma at the krav maga school too. It is basically street specific Skills that are rather helpful, with really shit muay Thai plus eye pokes and groin shots, with the hip toss and trips from judo, double legs and singles legs from freestyle wrestling; and shit jiu-jitsu with weapons defense; All awkwardly plastered together. That's It basically it, But I DO recommend it for self defense purposes only, it will make you competent enough to handle a total novice. However if you fight a competent and skilled fighter, very talented in one particular art, expect to loose. And against an mma guy your dead, unless you get a lucky groin kick lol.
>I did try aikido. It was barely usable. Its 10% useful judo, 5% useful Krav maga weapons shit. And 100% pure bullshit. You might beat a one legged retard with aikido. But by god. the laughs i had at those fucks
>>684423987
imagine if u could only post if the viewer could see your face through webcam with a bunch of stats next to it like maxs bank accounts etc name social security number whatever
whatever goes 100% legal so long as the cameras on and shits disclosed
kids in the western system should compulsory go through grecko roman, boxing, weights, gun & knife training from the age of 13, add 2 more school hours on to the week. shit like that
>>684424154
you should trademark that shit anon, i bet that fuckery could somehow work. its a refreshing idea
>>684424255
but jeus, imagine the shitshorm when a fight happens, and the bullies would be fulled. imagine chad with mma too. fml.
>>684422819
Done taekwondo and mma for about 5 years, never been in any fights though
theres this socio theory of gravity that anyone trying to escape the pack will be "pulled" back down/in by the force of the masses. its why things like no gun prohibition works, social evolutionary pressures of natural selection, quick draws come out, criminals dont follow the laws anyway, eventually all get shot and stop breeding.
same thing too from a mental aspect of those that can control their intake & access to psychadelics
(terrence mckenna food of the gods etC)
>>684424390
your thoughts on how useful they both would be if you did get into a confrontation, the speed a good wheel kick would catch off most people, and you could really step if with a side kick/turning side kick hard against the average noob
>op and his faggoty opinion here
As much as I like boxing, kickboxing, karate, tkd ect, I feel muay Thai is the best striking art from mma for a street fight. Push kicks are key in every self-defence class or system. Plus leg and middle kicks can be a great long range weapon and are devastating to your average Joe. Elbows, knees and clinch plus clinch sweeps is very very useful in many situations. with just enough boxing to see you through, while it's the punching in muay thai isn't as high level or as deep as in boxing, there isn't too much of an emphasis on slips, which if done wrong (especially against an unpredictable and inexperienced opponent who won’t likely punch traditionally) can get you knocked out, or at least do more harm than good of you aren't VERY skilled at boxing. And the emphasis on blocking and flat footed-ness while standing ground while pressuring, taking little risk, is something very useful that not many people mention about muay Thai.
A jab followed by an elbow is the best way to win a fight, especially if the person starting shit try's to get up in your face first, or if can pull it off, head kicks
>>684424583
elbows and underused and need more hespect. period.
I train regularly with Kelly Mccann and Lee Morrison. Brutal, effective techniques designed for street fighting, not sport focused.
>more of op's fagotry
Next I do feel you should likely add to some form of grappling. Sure muay Thai has some, but judo or some wrestling form would be very helpful. I personally am not good wrestler (I'm British lol) Using concrete as a weapon from a good double leg or slam from wrestling is always fun. Plus single legs are a very safe and reliable option. Judo is awesome too. Your average person won’t be able to stop the trips that often very subtle and safe. And a good hip toss can be devastating on concrete. Both are amazing. Both will teach you to keep good balance and not be taken down. Both will teach some level of ground grappling and MAY even teach some submissions. All depends on school and the type you study ect. You may not even need to take Brazilian jiu jitsu. If your grappling art doesn't teach top control and escaping bottom plus submissions and choke defence, You will NEED bjj. The gi can be useful for street too. Learning bjj WILL teach you ground control at an unparalleled level. In one on one situations, a bjj guy with 6 months training will beat an inexperienced guy with up to like a 60 pound weight advantage 99% of the time. And the bottom defence and stand ups is undeniably useful. You MAY not need bjj if your judo/wrestling class teaches a deep ground game.
>minimalist style, enough to see you through: muay thai and judo/wrestling (possibly with BJJ)
>>684424713
lemme google this real quick
A gun, what you're really asking is what style will be most effective againt an untrained oponent and the answer is all of them. If protection is solely the goal then avoiding a physical confrontation is best.
Best techniques: would go for krav maga, as they work with how you usually will get attacked, no bullshit situation.
Did taekwondo for 5 years, and got not very much transferable knowledge from there. Pretty useless sport, other than fighting competitively.
But the best you can do: lift weights and become big enough that people don't even wanna try.

urban combatives is commercialism fear mongering bullshit
>>684424804
You'd like Lee. Check out some of the videos of his worshops/training sessions
>>684424832
yeah this is a decent point man
>>684424976
apologies anon, i was thinking of raw combat international. im not really educated enough to have a solid opinion on urban combatives yet. will give them a look, thanks.
boxing is the best, fuck all that gay jujitsu and krav maga shit
>>684425187
bait detected lad
an expensive lawyer
>>684424921
If agree with you for the majority of "combatives" instructors out there, and would lump krav maga in there too (it's "hot" so you get a lot of bandwagoners who don't know shit) but you're wrong about urban combatives. No hype, no bullshit
>>684425254
u what? id you like to see you try your gay krava maga shit on me when i break ur nose with 1 punch
>>684424976
is he in the uk anon? where abouts
>>684425373
oi, u wot m8? ill do you in lad
>>684425359
it seems simmilar to krav maga. and a little bs, so far
>>684425375
Lee's based in the UK but travels the world these days. He's frequently in the US, so not hard to work with him, primarily in Detroit and Chicago, occasionally in ohio
>>684425624
ill look into it, but so far it looks like shit krav maga. although i got my instructorship in krav maga after just one year, any fucker can teach it, im lucky my school was good,
>>684422819
In all honesty a basic understanding of boxing will win you 99% of street fights.
>>684422819
Keep it in the ring
>>684425975
ide say 30% there is no clinch knees or ground game or throws, takedown, elbows, no teachingyou how to stand up from he bottom ect,
everyone in america wrestles you need to know how to stop takedowns and will off your back. its that simple
>>684424832
American detected
>>684426159
i was thinking the same thing. her majesty's master race here. no not really, we kinda suck
>>684422819
No training, just born in a shithole and got to fight a lot. Now I'm out my skills probably degraded but still.
>>684426395
where lad?
mma is superior peasants
>>684426524
NE of London. Used to be in one of those shitty gangs. A lot of feuds.
>>684426746
hackney here lad
Krav maga for close to 11 years now, I also boxed for about 6 of those years. Don't really street fight so never had to really put my training to the test on the street
>>684426834
why the fuck has everyone trained crav maga, i trained for one year and get paid to teach it with mma. its gonna become a voodo watered down bullshit art iin the next 5 years i know it
So how would a pure martial art style go in a street fight?
I feel like the martial art would win but at the same time street fighting is a lot more unpredictable and has no rules, whereas most martial art styles have rules of use applied
>>684426799
I remember a time we rolled around the edge of Hackney and fucked up a group of blackies. We never had reason to go over there. Put up too much resistance.
Hit first, hit hard, aim for the head, don't stop.
If you insist on fighting fair, just keep your guard high, lead with your left and follow with your right. Left foot forward. Unless you're left handed, then do the opposite.
>>684426799
Funny actually, the only time we ever stayed in Hackney was when that Turk gang stabbed one of us.
>>684422819
Gun im pocket
>>684426984
its already on the same level as aikido dont kid yourself
>>684422819
First technique is the foot to pavement technique. Apply feet to pavement Until foes recede from view. Second technique is the fist to face technique, which is very similar to the first technique.
>>684427674
no not really, its evolving with the times actually, there are some great instructors out there incorporating new shit.
