Put some more soil in so there's not so much stem above ground. You could also give them some sticks to grow up, just don't tie them on too tightly.

Also sunlight will work but not near a window, use a few cfl bulbs (2x23w) and put them close to the plants

I grow outdoors myself so I don't know much about indoors, but if you want to grow as cheap as possible you could plant them in the earth without pots, this way you probably don't need nutrients and no need to water them unless there's a drought

Planting both at same time works great, they grow at about the same rate, have nearly identical needs as far as fertilizer w/e, and the leaves of the tomato look similar enough to hide it from a distance. Legit know some people who "only grow tomatoes" in their garden for this reason.
