>tell op the password isn't working for rar file

>right after that the thread is deleted

On a rig with an i7, twin gtx970's, you can get around 170 passwords per second, using a rar bruteforcer that takes advantage of gpu's.
It will take you over a decade to go through all possible combinations if the owner used a 9 character password.
Compare with 1.3million passwords per second on a zip file.
Your best bet is to wait 15 years, buy a quantum computer, then use it to crack the file.

Keep in mind that most unnecessarily password protected rar files, contain malware.
Also, bruteforcing the password is not worth it, each attempt requires at least 1 file to undergo a decryption attempt, and that slows the process.

It is actually a .rar.
It has the header of the new rar5 compression.
Although the compression is new, I'm sure the encryption isn't. That said though, I'm sure most 'rar cracking programs' (That don't even work unless given over 9000 hours) won't work with it because of it being this new format to screw with old automated file identification.
So, all we know, is it's a .rar file using the new rar5 compression.
