TC mods were the bomb. I've made a few, myself, back when I had an old iMac egg and ResEdit. But I never had any graphical skills, so I was always ripping ships from other mods and the base game.
Interesting fact: before OS 9, you could open a program's executable in ResEdit, delete all the hex data, and use the modified binary to crash a system. Not quite a virus, but pretty much the closest thing on a Mac those days.

Some games were distributed as shareware and called itself such. There was a difference between shareware and demos back then. A shareware version of a game was essentially 1/2 to 2/3 of the full game rather than just a level or two. What the other anon said makes perfect sense since games today are starting to ship without their full content which must be purchased additionally through microtransactions or DLCs.
