Had an idea for a story, not done it yet. Foal goes exploring, lives in the woods with a herd, near a lake. Finds a "wocky fwend", which is a young alligator snapping turtle. Baby attacks foal, the mumma or daddie comes, stomps the turtle (manages to kill it, but still injured).
The a full adult alligator snapper comes, kills and eats the parent. Drags them off, leaves the foal injured and alone.

Seems like it would be easier than straight up 3D, but better than 2D. Instead of having to make 3d models for the fluffies, instead you just make like 4 different poses for walking, sitting, dancing, etc. And since the fluffy poses would be technically 2d, randomizing the floof's appearence would prolly be loads easier.
