Coming up with subtle mutations in fluffies or their behavior is not that hard. Fluffies cannibalizing others to survive, higher/lower intelligence, bigger wings, any trait from the base animals used going haywire and becoming dominant basically.
There was this series about a hornie sharpening his horn on a rock and becoming the fluffy fuhrer. Someone started drawing the story later on. This was maybe three years ago, I forgot the name of the story.
It comes down to these guys taking over an abandoned ice rink, establishing an elite class of hornies who blackened their horn in fire called the ashorns who have earthie and wingy slaves.
