That you're running your memory at retarded speeds for what your socket kan handle. Either that or you didn't select a decent XMP profile. You don't get 9-9-9-24 timings with anything other than 1600Mhz RAM, which is pleb-tier.

Bascially there's settings in the bios which will make your memory faster than it is by assigning 'timings' made by the manufacturers. Just look it up on the website of the maker of your memory, should increase performance by quite a bit.

It'll set the timings as factory standards, you actually have to go into your BIOS to activate an XMP profile with CL8 timings. Balistics will have 2 profiles, 1 with CL8 timings for 1600mhz and one for standard @1333 mhz, liek you have on now. Just change that and you'll be golden.

All these card coming out right now are really only "midrange" from my understanding. Expect something like the 390 range, I would imagine.

Newer games actually have 970's and 380/390's as recommended specs now. Those have becoem the rather expensive midrange, as they have expensive variants (980, 980ti etc) or cheaper ones (950 etc). So looking at it that way I guess those cards are midrange now.

To what will likely be to your surprise, no. It's not on purpose.
The motherboard only allows higher speeds if I have a tri-channel RAM setup, and 3 sticks for 12GB at the time I purchased RAM was double the price of two sticks at 16GB.
Also, attempting to overclock RAM to 1600Mhz made my system fail to POST, so not trying that again.
It's not an issue however, 3-4FPS in games doesn't matter to me, and I don't see anything else where the RAM's speed is hurting any performance.

Ah, I didn't pay much attention to your motherboard, apologies. Strange that it doesn't let you fiddle around much with RAM setups, although my old one also wouldn't let me have 4 DIMMS filled. Which was strange as the manufacturer said it should've been able to run 4 DIMMS @2133 at the same time but I never managed to get a POST with that either.

The magic of motherboards I guess.

But like I said, it runs fine. It has options to overclock the RAM with XMP to 1600Mhz, but you already know how that went. I think I was lucky to escape damaging the RAM controller on my CPU though.

XMP profiles have been like dark magic to me. On my old 990FXA (gigabyte) motherboard it simply wouldn't show XMP profiles, even though it said it would. My current one (Z97, MSI) shows 2 profiles but one doesn't work with all 4 DIMMS filled, even though it should have no problem with that.

So I stepped off the 4-dimm filling and went to 2 modules of twice as much. Corsair Vengeance is cheap as fuck now anyway, so might as well.

I'm just glad my mobo had a BIOS reset button in the case something go terribly wrong like setting up XMP went for me.

>>681032649
Ebay has my mobo for sale at $110. LGA 1366 sockets are pricey since their processors are cheap as hell. I do know my mobo doesn't officially support the hex-cores, but being the same socket, they should work. Personally trying to get one of the processors at 90W TDP so I'm not idling in the mid-high 40's.
>>
>>681033395
I've ran my Kingston HyperX Beast modules (4x4gb) at 1600 with 9-9-9-24 timings through XMP profile 1 as well. The problem was that the XMP profile for their suggested speed (2133 with Cas11 timings) simply didn't work. 1600mhz with 9-9-9-24 timings is pretty much standard with current/somewhat recent DDR3 modules, so obviously that doesn't cause any problems.
>>
>>681033955
then how are these guy nuking there ram modules and memory controllers then?
>>
>>681034113
No one has ever ruined ram with XMP. Consumer ram is rated to over 1.9V and no motherboard would allow you to oc ram anywhere near 1.9V. frequency and timing is irrelevant and will in no way cause damage to components
>>
>>681033378
I sure hope you won't need to either, hearing all my fans go 100% maxspeed on the POST fail made me go whiter than i'm supposed to be. I think it ultimately killed my Seasonic PSU too since the issues only started shortly after that.

>>681033395
