Fuck you if you're like this

>Manage a small company
>Employ a woman and her son
>Son is a 21yo, basement dwelling, video game addicted weiner
>Hired kid because mother asked (she's awesome) and I really needed someone
>Woman and husband are buying a new house in the country
>Kid is showing me the pics of the house on his phone and says "here's my room"
>I say "Your room? You're 21 years old, wtf do you mean your planning on moving into a home with your parents?"
>He doesn't understand what I'm getting at and says "Where else am I going to live?"

WTF is wrong with some of these young people?

Pay him better so he can afford his own place.
>>
>>679561694
I pay him well for the job he performs and the responsibilities he has. If he needs more money he should learn a skill.

Never go full millennial.

I'm Gen Xer. I finally got rid of my last boomer. Boomer's are too old now for my company and were completely worthless in their roles.
>>
>>679561479

Damn dude. He's 21 definitely still acceptable to be at home, maybe he's a student? If not, I agree he should be looking for a job to self sustain but holy shit relax...
>>
>>679561479
living at home when you have no prospect of getting a gf is just a good way to save rent money

>>679563475
As long as hes working why the fuck do you care? There are plenty more useless people
>>

>>
You seen housing pricing recently? In my area it's doubled in under 10 years. What used to be affordable just isn't.
>>
>>679564458
You missed my point. He has no ambition to do anything more than continue leaching off his parents. He works a no skill/low skill job for little money and has no future plans.
>>
>>679561479
I'm 22 and I'll most likely be moving back in with my parents once I finish Grad school later this year if I don't end up with a job here. My older brother just moved into his own place earlier this year after living with my parents for almost 2 years after graduating now that he has a full time job and some savings. It's really not that unusual for people to live with their families into their 20's.
>>
>>679564785
At least he's working, theres a sliver of hope in that alone. You also can't know his lived experiences, so whos to say what hes been through.
>>
>>679565108
What he's been through? I've worked with his mother for 10 years. He's been raised in the suburbs by two wonderful parents his whole life. He did nothing after graduating high school and he got a job only when his mother was able to hook him up with one.
>>
>>679563262
Congrats. Another one bites the dust!

>>679564785

>I'm from a generation that took everything the previous generation worked hard for and offered nothing for the subsequent generations to work off of (eg voting for corrupt politicians, allowing the dissolution of family traditions, letting the jews run your country), why are subsequent generations worse off than my generation?

Just make money and die like every other idiot you sanctimonious prick, you're so eager to make a buck you'd sell your own children to the wolves and have. You'll realize in the end you can't take your money to hell

He's obviously working in a dead end job i.e. whatever shit hole you manage. Why would you expect him to live on his own yet?

so you're saying you would rather spend a good chunk of you money to live in a shitty house instead of a good house that is for free.

Not to mention, that would cost much more than living with parents. Maybe he wants to save some money instead of needlessly spending it.
>>
Don't bash the guy for not being able to afford a place to live when you personally hired him and determine his pay. You also determine his mother's pay, and she can't afford to help her son get his own place either.

Haha. I know. I thought someone on this fucking website would actually agree that this kid needs to get his shit together. But as I should've expected everyone is just defending him and blaming everyone and everything for why he doesn't have any ambition.
Accountability is important in life. If you cannot find a job that pays enough for you to live off of, it is your fault. Learn the skills required and better yourself, don't sit there and whine and make excuses. It's definitely easier to blame others than to get an education in a field that pays well.

Upbringing makes a ton of difference. You wouldn't be who you are today if it wasn't for your formative years in the environment you were born into.

Things aren't like the 80 and 90's anymore buddy. The cost of living has sky rocketed and the American/Canadian dream is dead in the water. The national average for people getting there own place was Age 26 which was 7 years ago i can only imagine that number has now increased to 28-29. I hate people that are so up in the ass in the past they don't realize how much shit has changed for the worst. >>679566518
So you're telling me that a highschool kid flipping burgers should be paid a wage high enough to buy a home?
And that a guy stacking shelves in Wal Mart should be able to afford all of life's necessities?
There is a thing called "market value"
you get paid whatever your value is to the market

Also the people who push for a "living wage" are large corporations like Wal Mart (who actively lobby for a higher minimum wage) to drive smaller businesses out of business and gain a monopoly over the market

The after effects of raising a minimum wage to a level like this is hyper inflation
See post WW1 Germany for examples of how fucking horrible this is.

This is basic econ, don't comment on shit like this is you have no understanding

Why do people have to move out? That light have been the stigma back than, but times have changed. Parents of the millennials don't want to be like their own parents, they want to help their sons and daughters instead of forcing them out at 18. The feel good generation is already in its young adulthood, there is only very few left under age, so it's too late for parents to go back and change the way kids were raised, parents made brats, you have to blame the parent, not the kid. The kid was impressionable and ignorant in his adolescence, the adult didn't bother being a parent but instead was at friend. You're just gonna have to accept that this is your new workforce

i'm going to point out the elephant in the room and say that OP is BUTTHURT because this kid is living the easy life at the age of 21 while OP probably had to work his ass off just to get by and support himself at the age of 21

with that said, i don't know how you white/black/brown folks are with your family, but asians have big extended families for a reason, we are each others support net, kids don't usually move out until they get married or they have to or really want to, save a ton of money that way! don't make the assumption that living at home with the parents = a bump who leeches off the parents, they could be doing everything you're doing (working, school) and saving money at the same time not to mention home cooked meals by the parents are the best!

>>
>>679570163
Then you're an idealistic moron
People who stack shelves do not contribute enough to society to warrant that wage in the current climate
Perhaps if inflation were to drop they'd be able to afford a lot more with the wage they get paid, but rather than focus on solutions that work you'll play into the hands of the people you hate so much to help them enforce the situation that allows them to do the things you hate them for
(ie destroy competition and gain a monopoly on the market to control costs)

>>679570175
I don't make fun of the bottom
however I'm not going to romantise their job to make them feel good
If you stack shelves you stack shelves
Stacking shelves doesn't warrant a wage that should get you a house, car, monthly subscription to Netflix, etc, in the current market
Its just a fact
the only people who lobby for higher minimum wages are large companies trying to destroy competition and morons who have been brainwashed by them

What is your business and what do your workers do?
What is your market competition like and what are your profit margines?

>Says the baby who compares a country after war to one untouched of war.
I used post war Germany as an example of what hyper inflation can do to a country
What part of that was so hard to understand?
I never used them as an example of how a country got into that state nor did I make any claims saying that it would be nearly so extreme?
Its just a well known example which allows the demonstration of the effects of hyper inflation

>People are people and the world should stop treating them like kitchenwear

If the market doesn't value your work you cannot be paid as much as someone who the market values highly?
If we did that then the economy would crash.

I feel you OP. You aren't getting through to most people on here because they are doing the same thing as that kid is. It's not that he lives at his parents' house, it's the fact that he doesn't WANT to change his situation and isn't doing anything to better himself or prepare for his future. It's like you idiots don't understand that his freeloading mentality is the common denominator with most people in their 20's. Once I graduated I did whatever the fuck I could to get out on my own because it was a source of pride. I had 2 roommates and definitely didn't live in a nice house but no one could say it was given to me. I just turned 26 btw and put down $10k on a house that I closed on 4 months ago. Shit doesn't happen overnight, but my generation is so used to easy, instant gratification that hard work and discipline has become uncommon among kids getting out of school. Fuck all of you who are taking up for that kid too. You're the problem too and you make 20 somethings the laughing stock of society. Grow a set of nuts and try to accomplish something. I get what you're saying. No one in their 20's or over should WANT to live with their parents, but sometimes it is unavoidable.

In my case, I went to college for two years, but dropped out bc i didn't like where I was or what I was doing. For the next several years I worked full time, saved money, bought a house and then decided I needed to go back and finish, but found it incredibly difficult to go back to school full time while trying to pay a mortgage and support myself. I'm currently living with my parents while I finish, and am renting my place out to a friend and her bf to cover the mortgage. It's not an ideal situation, but I keep telling myself I'll be back in my own place come December so just tough it out.

Im 23 and still live with my parents.
Here is why.
I had crippling depression during senior year of high school and about 3 years after tried to kill myself multiple times. Finally got better last year and took that year rebuilding myself. Figuring out a career, goals, life plan. Finally got a stable full time job working retail (9.50hr) and 2 days out of the week i work a easy bullshit job that pays cash (9hr). I just sold my car and got a bike because it was a money sucker and i really dont need one as i can walk or ride my bike now that its getting nice out. So i have $5100 in my savings now. I plan to save at least 12000 by the end of the year so i can move out and have some safe money in case anything. I think im headed in the right direction.
advice?
Im pretty happy so far my feet hurt everyday tho...i need better shoes

You don't even realize just how retared that sentence is, do you?
>>
>boomers
The war is over and the whole economy is garbage. Many companies ceased to exist and the market is fresh and needy for new businessmen opening their firms.
Many people died in the war so the workforce is slim. There is an overabundance of work.

>now
Literally fucking everything exists already and if it doesn't, it's most likely useless. Try to kickstart it kek.
New companies will most likely be bought up or boycotted by the big boomer companies.
There aren't many jobs that aren't absolute garbage and pay less than selling lemonade on the corner unless you went to uni. Let's go to uni.
5 years later.
Hey that's a beautiful bachelor/master (depending on how much effort you put in it) unfortunately everyone is a bachelor/master nowadays so all those jobs from 5 years ago are gone. Go flip burgers you lazy fucking fuck. How dare you not work you fucking imbecile poorfag. Fucking millenials.

You sound like this kid I once beat up in high school. A lot like him, actually. Your benevolence is naive, dude. This isn't a fairy tale world in which everyone gets to live without suffering; we are all simply participating in modern survival of the fittest. If you settle for a lack of education and a minimum wage job, then I don't think you deserve anywhere near the level of amenities of someone who completed their education and has attained a worthwhile and lucrative career.

>I lived in the barracks and ate sandwiches for over a year

Sounds like me during my 4 years at university.

Good. Fuck all these other dumbasses who believe that a kid performing unskilled labor and living at home deserves high wages. They only want that because they're in the same boat.

Is that sort of life worth living? Look at the favelas of Brazil or the old shanty towns of the American '30s. Or look at today's skid row? Is that an acceptable quality of life for modern day United States, a first world country and super power?

You offered him no way to advance even though he hasn't had schooling? Do you even want skilled people at your business?

It's like when someone says they support Bernie Sanders...all it does is tell us everything we need to know about that person (e.g. they don't make much money and probably feel entitled to handouts).

Don't forget to keep him from earning 15 dollars an hour for flipping those burgers endlessly into your gaping maw. That shitty cuckslave doesn't deserve even 10 dollars. I don't care how fucking upset he gets after I call him a piece of shit asshole scumbag for putting onions on my burger! FUCK Millenials! Entitled little shits!

Excuse me, I've got to get going. I'll miss the early bird special if I don't get to sleep before 7pm.

Regulation of markets isn't driving down minimum wage. Businesses that benefit from lower minimum wage aren't going to raise it if it hurts their bottom line. It doesn't matter the level of the profits, because there is always going to be some desperate john to take a minimum wage shmucks job. No incentive for businesses financially means they won't do it.

The fact that the gov. has to step in at this point should tell you this.

At least you working toward a goal. Might try talking to mom and pop and see what they think. maybe get some education. You can apply for student grants. I wouldn't recommend lone's because they can be a bitch to pay pack. I'm still paying on mine 10 years later.

1. buy better shoes.
2. 9 bucks an hour cash...are you paying taxes on this? If not, it isn't a good long term solution. off the books means on the hook for your taxes. FICA is a bitch.
3. I was going to make a shitty comment about you not being able to do anything well since you failed at suicide, but realized that was a shitty thing to say.

There's plenty of people who are 21 and still live at home. It's a tough market in a lot of places these days. I was out of the house at 19, living in apartment that was $700 a month rent not including utilities. I could barely afford to eat after paying rent and utilities, car payments/insurance, phone and Internet bill, etc. I ended up not being able to afford it anymore, got a roomate, and he worked for two months and then quit his job and tried free loading off me. I had the landlord kick him out, tried to find a better roomate but couldn't, and ended up having to move back in with my parents at 22.

I'm currently saving up, traded in my car for one with cheaper payments and I'm just now starting to get back on my feet. It's hard to find an apartment in my area that's actually reasonably priced to live in on my own. I have plenty of friends who live on their own, but they all have girlfriends, families or roomates so renting with them isn't an option.

Sometimes it's just hard, man. Maybe the kid you're talking about is just a lazy, dependent loser, but there's a lot of people around that age that are seriously trying and it can be pretty tough.

You really can't judge somebody for living with their parents in their early twenties if they're at least trying to be independent. A lot of us do feel like bums. But I at least help my parents out with the mortgage payment and buy my own groceries and pay my own bills.

Nothing is cheap or easy any more.
