>>678415768
Assuming your not aiming for an ivey league, just maintain a 3.0 and you'll be fine. Score at least a 1600 overall on your SAT. It's really nothing to worry about. People just over hype it.
>>678416014
Trying to get into CalTech, so pretty close to that.
>>678415768
My GPA was ass in HS, 2.7, but I got a 2130 on SAT. Just don't shit on the SAT and have a 2.5+ and you should be fine with most colleges honestly

guys, i have nothing against you, but honestly - American people, you are stupid a little bit, especially in math/IT/physics. I was the worst and most stupid kid in my school in Russia. I never had any education more than just average school, but in the US i am the fucking king.
Really for that.

i-is that acceptable for most colleges?
>>678417960
all depends on the program
>>678417775
Nah Geophys. Even though I have alot of PE friends, I still sort of laugh at them because they chose the major for the money. But oil is shit now and their job placement rate is barely above 10%. Mine is shit too but at least my field is interesting.

>>678418463
Ehh I dont find it particularly interesting. And even though our school is known for having a good PE department, their curriculum is about 20 years behind and cheating is RAMPANT when compared to other departments. I had to take a sedimentology class that was predominantly petros, and during our tests I could look around and see over half of the students with papers or notecards on their laps. Its ridiculous and they wonder why every non-petro at our school takes their major as a joke.
>>678418594
How many AP classes did you take throughout the course of your high school career? And was your 3.9 unweighted or weighted?
>>678418893

Love the atmosphere and at the end of the day, any major uni. will get you the job. I chose to go to the Uni. I'd have the most fun at and fuck the most hot chicks. 3 years later and many other uni. Visits later, I'm so happy I came here
>>678418945
oh yea, cheating is bad here. it's mainly all the africans and arabs though. africans all cheat between each other. arabs have arab tas help them. they'll speak in arabic during tests and the prof doesn't know shit.
I dropped outt of high school, got my GED the next then attended OSU instead. So yeah you can get into state colleges with no highschool diploma and not even being a senior, encase anyone was wondering. No ACT or SAT

>>678419259
Ohh the arabs and asians in petro cheat hard. Last year there was a scandal where some asian guy paid a TA 3 grand for a test key. Him and two of his friends got 100s on a test where the average was a 38 (yes, the teacher sucked and always gives out impossible tests). But asians, only being book smart, didnt realize that getting a perfect score on an exam in that class is a big red flag to the teachers. They basically held a sign on their chests that said "I CHEATED."

Probably why I didn't get into UT like I wanted. I notoriously forgot to do/turn in assignments in high school so it's a wonder my grades weren't lower. Especially with math. If I didn't understand a single question on a math worksheet, I just wouldn't turn in the paper.
>>678420080
fuck no you can't
high ACTs look absolutely awful without a decent GPA backing them up, it makes you look smart but lazy and that's not what colleges want

Why I can't just lie, lol?
>>678420519
No, not with a full cost grant. You might be able to get in with good essays, but you don't have enough extracurriculars to bolster what you already have. Ivy Leagues tend to take a holistic approach, so they'll look at everything you have to offer, which means a focus on extracurriculars. The presidency shows that you have leadership in their view, but no actual passion for anything, which is what they're really looking for in their standout students.

>get 3.8 gpa or higher with ~1500 SAT score ----> get accepted into the mid-tier UC's (think Davis, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz)
>or... be native american
>have shit grades
>get accepted to UC Berkeley
And our fucking Chinese valedictorian got rejected from UCB while that Indian got in.. I kinda felt bad for him

Not even sure how I got in.
>>678420519
Huh. I might have a better shot of getting into the college I want then. 4.3 weighted GPA, going to take 11 APs by the time I graduate. Extracurriculars are organizer for a coding club, and member of a robotics club, as well as a member of JV tennis and 30 hours of volunteering as a math tutor.
>>678421775
Thanks, I hope it does too. I was so depressed while in school I was legitimately considering shooting myself. I just stopped going to class.
I eventually realized I didn't want to become a programmer - I wanted to make money by becoming a programmer. The key there is my main goal was making money - so I said fuck college and started making software to sell which allowed me to start on my goal immediately instead of waiting 4 years, trying to get a job, and following other peoples rules making a decent salary.
Now I'm super happy, content with life, and excited as fuck to see what the future holds. College sets you up for a predefined path - you generally know what the future holds if you stay in school. You'll get out, get your job in your field, and then work until you retire, die, or quit.
>>678421991
Why did you choose that particular college?

Nice dude you're living the dream, I had the choice between beach school and mountain school and while I love hiking and the snow and shit I yearn for just wearing a tank top and burying myself up to my mouth in the sand tbh

>>678415221
I attended USC, where I played Rugby and soccer (as a walk on, the team was far too good at the time for me to expect a scholarship there like I had for the out of state schools). My high school GPA was 4.0 (at a private school, we didn't have the 4.5 option and we didn't have C's or D's, you were either an A/B student or you were failing) and my SAT score was 1420 when 1600 was the max.
I dropped out after I finished my first Sophomore semester because I had to pay for it myself as well as work full time and eating became fairly important once I realized I couldn't do both.
>>678422804
out side of the elite universities you should be good for anywhere
I'm just getting started with my education.
I was taken from school in the 8th grade, enrolled in a home school program but never did my work.
So far my GED scores are 157 for language arts and 161 for social studies. You need a 145 to pass and 165+ is an "honors" score.
I didn't study at all and this new test has gotten national attention multiple times due to it's difficulty. I was class of 2009, and haven't picked up a book since the 8th grade and I'm 25 now.
I feel there's hope for college but I don't know...... Maybe one day I'll belong here.
>>678418139

Hopping from Ivy league to Ivy league is a lot easier than entering an Ivy league as a freshman. Got in here mainly because of the hook ups through a HS program they got there in Lerner hall. Besides, I wanna do Business, so I'm shooting for Wharton
