OP here. Just finished watching the last episode tonight and I've read up some more on it too. I'm 90/10 convinced that he's innocent, but you are right, some evidence is a bit questionable, but for me, the blood vial is the bombshell. If they had his blood, they had his DNA to do whatever they wanted.
Also, that Ken Kratz kiddy fiddler made me sick. And all of the cops involved looked really fucking slimy and like they had something to hide.

He is definitely a scumbag who is probably guilty of something. He may have been involved in that women's murder, but he wasn't alone, it didn't happen how the cops and DA said it did, Dassey wasn't involved, and there is no way he is guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
I think the guy should probably be in jail for something, but not this case. The cops are corrupt as fuck and didn't even attempt to look at anyone else. They planned to pin it on Avery from the beginning.

obviously there were some fabrications. for example there is no way she was shot in the garage. all that junk and not a single speck of blood found... it's just not possible. not saying he didn't shoot her somewhere, but it definitely didn't happen in the garage. also she obviously wasn't tortured in Avery's trailer. they said she was raped, tortured, had her hair cut, etc. but they didn't find any evidence to support that. also part of the remains were found at a quarry. all these things combined means the bulk of the crime took place somewhere NOT on the Avery property like the prosecution suggested. not sure what that says about who did it though.
now everyone post what they thought the shadiest thing in the doc was... for me it had to be Colburn calling in the plates before Halbach went missing, and then the car being found almost immediately after the search of the property began. cops so obviously identified the car in advance and tipped off the search party.

DNA can be transferred from anything that has been in close contact with your body. They could take your dirty underwear and wipe it on something to transfer your DNA to that object. I believe it's called transference.

I thought the car crusher thing was a little overblown imo. it might not be a thing that Stephen operated on the daily or routinely... it is a serious piece of heavy machinery after all. it might have been weird for him to just crush that car or crush a few cars... then you have to use another piece of heavy machinery to move the crushed car. also from the pictures they showed it just flattened the car, while other crushers make those neat little cubes. the car would have still been somewhat recognizable.
also remember that even though Stephen isn't the dumbest guy in the documentary, he's still pretty stupid by average standards.
