Obviously no one here has played he fallout series... The reason why 4 is considered bad is because the lack of good content. There were amazing stories, mysteries to solve, and memorable characters to find and explore. Fallout 4 offers very little of this, and boils down to "We need help settlement settlement settlement." They've replaced the unique stories and quests with procedurally generated garbage. Great visuals and gameplay with no experience or substance.

I love that in an open world RPG. It makes no sense that if you train in skill B you can not get better because you know A. Want to swing an axe? FO4, it was an okay game, just not great for these reasons.
1. Lack of depth, you character is raging over how he wants his son back, but because YOU don't really give a shit you go do every other mission possible, go meet companions, build town and whatnot. So when the main story line comes along it's just like meh. Also a lack of a karma system.
2. I got stuck trying to access a computer screen on the very first mission with Garvey. Multiple times.
3. The game wasn't balanced properly. One you don power armor, Survival mode became a piece of cake, especially without food and water requirements. But take it off and you instantly die from some random bullet.
4. There really was only one logical choice for the ending, all others are for the lulz or brain damaged people. MUH ROBOTS GOT DEM FEELS
5. Muh towns, while it's a cool idea, settlements are for the most part, completely useless and despite hammering away on buildings for 100 yeras, they're still broken down rust shacks. Also Who the fuck would construct a building that looks like shit, it's not hard to get lumber and build something nice, even post nuclear war.

The game was fucking garbage, I had such high hopes for it with how pretty it looked and settlements and the companions and shit but my God within the first 20-30 hours I'd say that excitement was gone, replaced by plain disappointment.

I had the opposite problem. I got both games last year, and F3 crashed for me four times by the time I got to megaton, and I've only had New Vegas hang loading once. I was playing on PC, with all DLCs, and no mods

Are you autistic? Google the wildlife in Morrowind alone. Compare the variety of them, in looks as well as well the MoBs reside, and then do the same with Skyrim or FO4. Or look at all the awesome easter eggs and freedom Morrowind gave you. Or the rich cultures and insane amount or lore (such as the tiger dragons and metal men) FO4 and Skyrim don't even come close. You can't even kill important NPCs. You have a nice dot telling you exactly where you need to go, all the time. Those games are so painfully dumbed down with focus on graphics and action over depth, exploration, immersion, and challenge. Enjoy being pleb teir.

in short, fallout 4 was a really big backpedal in terms of dialogue and some gameplay. The point of dialogue in the other ones is to reinforce what type of character you want to be, while also giving you a bonus for certain skill checks in dialogue (speech, science, guns, etc.) . In 4, the dialogue choices are so weak that all of this doesn't even matter. Gun creation could have actually been cool, but it's blocked by a million perks to get full access. Skill point allocation on level up is now gone, which means you have to rely on bobbleheads to increase skills ( i may be wrong on this one).

It's a great use of iconography, but a mediocre at best use of actual Fallout.
IF it were finally on a different engine and solved the things that really shouldn't be there anymore (glitches, abundance of loading screens), it could've been something highly enjoyable for what is is.
But as is right now, it's an ugly Skyrim mod made by people, who forgot what Fallout should be.
On the bright side, Obsidian has confirmed, that they would love to make their own Fallout game again, so there's hope for a decent installment in the series yet.

In oblivion, you could reflect %110 damage, without cheating. You get hit, take no damage, and hit them back harder than they hit you. In Morrowind, you could do whatever you fucking wanted. You could enchant a nice shield with damage self constant effect, reverse pickpocket it, and laugh as the guard slowly died from an unknown curse. That and spell crafting. In Morrowind, Oblivion, and definitely Skyrim, you have to make a conscious effort to not be a god.

I spent over 500 hours modding that game. I wanted more diversity in race, and more challenge beyond "Hurr they hit harder and have more health". Because in the end that just made everything a one hit wonderland. You kill them or get killed in a few seconds. I wanted epic fights. Long story short I was unable to overcome the core issues I had with the game.

Yeah, fallout 3 was different than 1 or 2, but 90% of you didn't play those till AFTER fallout 3. If you're one of the few that did, congratulations. I'm sure that makes you very attractive and intelligent having played those first.
Seriously though, even though it had it's flaws, fallout 4 was a solid game.
There was a lot of depth in the story, even if most people on the Internet don't seem bright enough to grasp it. More so than in the main story for Fallout 3, that's for goddamn sure.
The Settlement system was kinda useless, I'll agree, but also not necessary beyond some basic minimal interaction. Don't like it? Don't fucking do it dumbass. I personally enjoyed having a custom place to keep all my power-armor.
It still had plenty of interesting side shit and characters. I enjoyed being the Silver Shroud. Figuring out what the fuck was going on in Covenant. Finding out who Pickman was after those calling cards. Lots of other things too. Granted, a lot of the side missions weren't as good as some of the one in Fallout 3, but the same can be said of NV.
As for characters, most companions were pretty fucking cool. Useless in combat but shit, what's new Bethesda. Kellogg's memory sequence was interesting as well, and I liked that he wasn't a paper cut out Villain.
Mechanics were different, but spiced things up at least. People say they are tired of the same things over and over, but whine insistently when something is changed. It had it's ups and downs sure. However, if they never try shit, they'll never improve shit. If they ignore the people just bitching, they'll get a better idea of what worked and what didn't.
I don't like cutting they did on the perks, but you can still do unconventional builds if you have some imagination. Just not as much :/
Was Fallout 4 perfect? Hell No. Was it a good game? Yes. And it gives them a base to improve on the next one.
