Ask a Forestry Technician anything.

What is that even?

It's called a wedge prism. It's used to measure how much wood there is in a particular forest (or stand as it should be called)

Why do forests need a technician? It seems like trees grow on their own?

A well managed forest can produce lumber AND be beneficial to the environment. There's lots of work to be done, especially in a place like Ontario which has basically be higraded completely and it's all new woods. Gotta make sure there's a good balance of tree species growing in their preferred locations, gotta look out for wildlife...all kinds of stuff.
Ok. How much wind is too much for a burn? Had a burn scheduled for this morning but called off due to 14mph wind.

I don't think we covered that. I'm a licensed forest fire fighter, but I have no practical experience (we needed like 8 certs to pass the program)
