The problems of Africa come directly from instability. Starvation is a problem mostly of organization and civilization, not of climate or the ability to grow their own food.
It's fucking Africa: Plant something, it grows. Drought affects some areas but could be managed with proper mass storage such as dams and reservoirs, not to mention bloody great aquifers.
But all of that stuff takes stability, and you can't have stability when everyone is killing everyone else.
We'd like to blame the Islamists, but the truth is that western capitalism and corruption are the main causes. Oil and minerals can't be used by people who can't even become agrarian because of instability, and Africans are easy to exploit when all you have to do is bribe a strongman.
