Replace talent trees with fixed setups for each class, make lots of content in game to support lots of abilities. Each class does not have to be as exhaustive as in typical rpgs. Or game designers could just get their shit together.

but what's better about that than talent trees anyway? Talent trees are a good solution that let people use whatever weird class hybrid they want. And you still have the problem: How do you get your average player to understand the difference between very similar classes like "scout" and "explorer"? No one's going to read through literally 100 class descriptions.

Why should the average player be able to understand all differencies? While I agree the talent tree thing is a dirty quick fix, it was something I pulled out of my head for sake of answering your comment. Given some more time thinking through this you could probably come up with more elegant answers.
You could also stop having classes that are general purpose (like wow where every class can do PvP, PvE, crafting or fishing etc.. )

As for distinguishing between scout and explorer, those two words have different. It is not hard to derive some different characteristics of the two given the definition of the word. The explorer would be good at travelling and moving, perhaps at finding treasures to while the scout is good at locating humans / creatures / climbing trees..
