I don't particularly care for relationships.They seem boring, repetitive and useless. In a friendship you may get gifts, hangouts, trust, whatever. You can do without these things, EASILY. The amount of time and effort put into to maintain such a friendship isn't worth it for me so I prefer to be alone.
Three close friends if you don't count my gf or my siblings. Go fishing, out for beers, shooting, help each other with projects, and just generally fuck around. I'm 29, buddies 26~45.

OP here. I have 3 close friends. But I feel like I should have more. I have many other friends and I put effort into the friendship but I never get much back. Its only when it suits them. So I think to myself. "Maybe they just dont like me and dont want to be friends" So then why do they accept my friendship anon. Why dont they just fuck me off and not encourage me? We're all dicks and have come to realise we don't like other people, so just enjoy slagging each other off and playing music together with the occasional trip to the pub.

I have plenty of 'friends' like that outside of my 3. I don't put much effort into them, unless I don't have anything else to do. They are the kind of friends that hit me up they need shit. I.E my trailer or truck, working on a car, computer shit, and just other favors. People like to be nice. Just chill with your close friends and don't worry about the others. Maybe you'll be able a wrench a favor or two out of them in the future. It's not like you stand to loose anything.
Otherwise, spending my weekend watching MLG, hitting up a hockey game with a buddy tonight, and going fishing all day tomorrow with the sister's man.
5 or 6 close friends that i know would have my back. 60 or 70 or so fraternity brothers that i could count on to back me up in a bar fight, thats about all i would trust them with.

Exactly. I'm generally liked and considered a nice guy. Usually willing to do favors for beer/food/entertainment. Plenty of people would call me their friend. It's just how shit works. Being a likeable person or being useful/needed can't be a bad thing right? Aught make you feel good, I'd say. I just wouldn't invest myself to heavily if I were you. Defining a person as a friend isn't exactly a black and white thing anyways. You've got your close friends that you can trust and rely on, and you've got those people that you like and don't mind being around, but wouldn't exactly share everything with. The latter are still useful to have. Stupid shit like job references, favors (if they don't blow ya off,) and just shit to make you feel good.

The problem I am having is we are all in uni. So all of those 3 close friends are far away and I get bored. And if they were here they would come out at the drop of a hat. Adding on to that, just watch out for moochers. No idea how old you are or what your economic situation is, but you do still have to watch out for dipshits. I don't run into this so much anymore, as I no longer sell/smoke weed and have gotten older, but I did use to have those 'friends' that would come over to chill and just keep suggesting that we aught smoke a bowl or something. Which they obviously wouldn't match on. I say, "naww, I just smoked one, man, stoned enough," and they'd be out the door with some shit excuse before you knew it.

Im in uni and pretty well off financially. Ive never struggled with money. But thinking about it now. All the money I have spent on lunch, drinks, gig tickets, and other things for other people I would be so much better off. I think its because I can manage to get by without needing all this money I am more generous with it. I should stop being like that.

Ya, sounds like you are trying to buy people. What you really need, since your mates are obviously far away, is make some new/extra ones. Without blowing your dough on them. Find people that like you for your personality, maybe do a favor or two (that costs you time, not so much money,) and fish it out. Start with one. Since you are in UNI, it shouldn't be too hard to find like minded people in all the bullshit clubs and major related organizations/study groups they have.
