It's a CNS (central nervous system) depressant like alcohol and opiates. Benzodiazepines are one of the strongest CNS depressants made, and since Xanax is a quick short acting drug, it is more addictive. If you take it every day, your body stops producing enough GABA, which is your body's natural depressant, used to calm you down etc. if you stop taking the drug your body goes fucking haywire, and in extreme cases, you can die. It took me 5 days to get past the physical addiction of heroin. Xanax took over a month and was far far worse. I'd recommend leaving it alone, but I wouldn't have listened either.

I've come off morphine withdrawals (literally identical to clean heroin). Xanax is way worse, and it can kill you. I had rebound panic attacks out of nowhere, debilitatingly so.
