Go ahead and look up standard salaries at firms in NY, or LA or Boston or DC and then come back.

Trade school -> Become crane operator or high pressure welder -> Have no life but make $150,000+ per year doing camp work (oil, mining, construction,etc.). I know crane operators and welders who are making $250,000+ per year but they practically live in hotel rooms for months at a time (I did it for a while, I'd work for 2-3 months straight then take 4-6 weeks to go travel).
I now teach English in Thailand and live a much more relaxing life with my wife and soon to be born daughter.
I was a red seal crane operator in the Alberta oil patch for over 5 years. I have no debt, a house and condo I own outright in Canada and Thailand. Nice truck and motorcycle. And a pretty respectable bank account while having travelled much or South America and Asia.
Fuck college, get into trades. There is more jobs and less competition in them.

that you have to do well at a good school.
The reason that the averages are skewed is because there are a lot of shitty no name law schools in the country, and those graduates are completely fucked. I agree with that whole heartedly. I would never advocate going to one of those schools if that was your only option.
But this does not invalidate the success of people who attend the top schools, which is always who I was talking about.
All those schools I listed about DO in essence guarantee you a job. They all have 90+ percent employment rates.
>>676941467

In my opinion, it isnt worth trying to make it into on of those top teir schools unless you are guaranteed good work and high pay. Which you could be, but is it worth it? But i agree if you have a law degree from one of the top ten law schools you should be ok
>>676940449
This is classic to see from someone who hasn't completed post secondary. I can't remember how many times I've seen charts like that. Fact is that unless you get lucky or have an in then you're an unpaid/underpaid intern. Which you may or may not be able to afford. Not just with lawyers. You remind me of my 15 year old cousin who's "either going to be a forensic anthropologist or a medical examiner". They should tell you in school that real life doesn't work like that. Getting your degree is the easiest part. Shit happens.
>>676940449
Dumbest fucking post I read today. You're obviously 12 and have no real concept of life yet so I'll let it slide. I can tell you that I live in NYC and chances of getting picked up at a firm with 6 figure pay right outta law school is slim to none these days. Plus you even posted $175k and all numbers you posted after with school is lower by $15k. Just go masturbate in the corner until you're old enough to buy cigarettes.
Just use your brains and get a job in infosec.
I've only got 5 solid years of civilian experience, and making $160k plus bonuses.
It helps to have military experience, but not absolutely necessary. I just hired a kid straight out of college for $90k into a pentester role.
Plus, the more we rely on technology, we're just cementing the need for infosec professionals. Essentially, it's a recession-proof market. Permanent job if you don't suck at it.

>>676942816
That's a fair point to make. It might not be worth it in the end. But it's still true that those are the numbers. Two different arguments.
>>676942826
How do you account for the fact that these are averages, then? Maybe you have to be lucky to get into one of these school (not even that's true, some of them have really high acceptance rates) but surely the average graduate isn't a lucky one.
>>676942875
The reason the figures are 15k lower is because they don't include the 15k bonuses.
Also, how do you account for the numbers in the post, then. What's your explanation?
Look, I'm not saying that I'm right in the absolute. The difference is that nobody has yet shown me why the data is false. Or why there is some other explanation for it.

I'm a way better person for having traveled the world for six years. I mean just comparing my after travel vs me before travel, it's obvious. In experiencing more of the world, diid I also become better than some other people? Yeah, definitely. Am I saying I'm better than you? Well, if you've never left your home country, I'd say there's a pretty good chance your worldview is a lot more narrow than mine. If you don't think having a narrow worldview means anything, then I doubt I could convince you that it does. Average is going to be around $50-75k first year out unless you're working 90 hours a week in a megafirm, and then when you break it down (I did, because I lived it) you're making $12.00 an hour.

Best career path: Carving your own.
With the internet, there is no excuse not to pursue your passion. The only thing that matters in the socioeconomic game is making enough money to get by. And there are so many ways to do that while fulfilling that passion. It's not about the upscale house or fancy car - what no one really needs, it's about the most precious currency there is, time. Are you living on your terms, or someone else's?
I personally do internet marketing, and it gives me the entire day to live as we as humans were meant to live, without these self-imposed duties (though you're still serving other people somehow, which is actually a blessing), while making a fantastic living. If something doesn't give you that, it just isn't worth it imo.
There is always a way for you guys, you just have to be willing to find the way that works for you.

Apex/Cary is beautiful. Tons of people relocate to that area. My girlfriends parents live there and her mom (RN) works for Duke medical. 3x12 hour shifts a week, 4 days off and $100,000/yr in one of the cheapest cost of living states without the city headache is the good life.
Great state. Born in NC lived in many other places but all of them were pretty shit in comparison. East coast beaches are the best, couple hours to the mountains and seasons without the extremes. Cheap gas, cheap food, big yards, friendly neighbors, low crime.

>>676935001
Depends. I'll g fro a trades point of view.
I you live on the coast, or grown up scuba diving an such start learning to weld / fit / etc. And work towards commercial diving. Underwater welder have a career of about 8-10 years, but make 230 - 300k a year. After that you can weld anywhere with the qualifications.
I you live more inland and don't have the opportunity to do that. Get into plumbing or HVAC. They average 90k + a year an usually hav company vehicles and stuff.

It's an unfortunate shift... ADNs typically have more hands on beside hospital experience. I got hired as an ADN before getting my BSN... lots of hospitals will still hire you so long as you show them you're working towards that higher degree. Stupid magnet status bullshit.
Airline pilot is pretty cool as well.
Most require a 4 yr degree. Doesn't matter the major, as long as it's from a university.
Airline school is pretty easy to get through and cheaper than a 4 yr degree, but again, you have to get a 4 yr degree before big airlines will even consider hiring you so you're gonna have to pay for both.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, commercial divers and underwater welders have a mean (average) hourly wage of $26.32, while the mean annual wage is approximately $54,750.
Additionally, the top percentile (90%) can make approximately $93,910 or more.

If that's what you make of me in your mind. I can afford, both monetarily and figuratively in the grand scheme of my life, to use an hour or two out of my day to browse 4chan. The question is, can you? It's only not viable if you make it so. There are so many people who have broken the barrier already, there's no reason a few people on 4chan can't be inspired and actually make it, though your post is kind of discouraging that notion.

BLS is meh, looks like they clumped up other welders into that category, and anon specifically said underwater welder. once the door would close she'd almost instantly get naked. most times she'd put on her favorite song and start sucking. then she would cry. her tears and makeup would drip down her face onto my dick. its surprising how cold tears are. eventually i finally asked her what was wrong. in between licks she told me that her favorite song was also her bfs favorite song. so even though she loved hearing it and it totally got her pussy wet, it also made her think about the fact that she was cheating on her boyfriend. i dont think i ever came harder down somebodies throat then right after she told me that. she was beautiful. we dont hang out anymore. wanna get lunch?

While MDs are more lucrative than NPs, the jobs are completely different.
The advantages of NPs is focus on bedside care and manner. NPs do the more menial MD's duties so the MD can focus on more critical cases. Also, NPs are cheaper to hire.
They have their place. Best of luck trying to avoid NPs since modern hospitals are hiring more NPs to replace their less specialized MDs.

I knew a girl who was famous, not a big deal famous but well known.
She got pregnant after a one night stand and she was posting in a closed group on facebook because she was worried/scared.
Next thing she knew a story appeared in a paper giving all the details and what looked like quotes from her given to the person who wrote the story. they were in fact posts she had made in that group. She had never spoke to any journalist and didn't know about the story until it appeared in the paper.
Now you can say she deserved etc and i don't give a fuck. I won't argue against that because i don't care but what that journalist did was befriended her on Facebook (not like posing as a friend, just sent a friend request), looked at the groups she was a member of and joined those groups, then lurked in the hope of something juicy.
They never talked to the girl and then wrote a story and forgot about her.
I think it is creepy, sly and devious.

Nursing and Doctors are vastly different jobs. I didn't want to be a doctor. I didn't want to get into 200k + worth of debt and be in slavery for 8 years just to be able to break even at age 28-30. The average time a doctor spends with the patient is only 5 min. The rest of their day is paperwork. That's not where I want to be. I'm not really worried about becoming an "elite" nor am i really concerned about money. I guess I'm lucky in those aspects.
>>676953229
Well that is the type of journalism I meant, not sports, politics or even investigative journalism. That kind of journalism is actually vital because there are some things that need to be exposed in the public interest.
There was no public interest in the story I was talking about other than a lurid interest in gossip like you said.
She had to tell people that she was pregnant and then had to tell them when she had an abortion when she decided she couldn't keep it (she literally didn't know the guy).
>>676952997
You cant assume that. I have also put information up that shows that the market is saturated. And that 95% work found after graduation rate, can be because the majority of people in that school know somebody. So if op doesnt know anybody it is pointless for him to amass that debt. Mind you if you go to one of those schools you will be more likely to find work, but that doesnt mean you will have 160k the first year

But your information is counting all schools, which I've already pointed out is not what im talking about. I would not go to those schools, and I think it would be a terrible idea. It is only a good idea if you go to one of those top schools.
Nobody said anything was 100% gaununteed. But if you consider the fact that 95% percent of people graduate, and of those 90%+ are employed, and of those a minimum 50% of them are making 160k+ then it is very, very, likely.
It's a situation where you are literally /more/ likely to get a job making 160k than not. Which is damn good odds if you ask me.
By the way, a lot of the ones who aren't making 160k is due to self-selection, because they go Clerk, or to academia, etc, and make less by choice.
And considering more than 50% of the class is making 160k, that's a damn good chance.
