sadly no, I don't play her as a serious character. mostly she's someone I bring out during friendlies or if the other person is a super hard camper/projectile spammer.
from what I've seen though you've got to play a weird mix of offense and defence. she can't be openly aggresive like falcon or cloud but being overly defensive leaves her stupidly predictable.

I'm a guy who grew up with the series and views it as one of the most well crafted experiences there is in gaming.
to be honest I've always dislike samus out of the power suit except to prove a point that can't be made in the suit.
she's a stoic bounty hunter with a traumatizing past. the way people view her in the zero suit disregards that completely.

other M was actually the closest thing to her character there is. it was just handled in the worst possible way imaginable.
when samus sees ridley in other m she has a PTSD attack. she has this canonically because of ridley leading the attack on K2-L that got her parents killed. she works through it in the manga and the topic is never brought up seriously ingame aside from other m. with other m being after super metroid chronologically this means the last time ridley was seen was when he was killed on zebes shortly before an explosion engulfed the entire planet. if a planet exploding couldn't kill the guy who claims to have killed and eaten your parents I'm sure you'd have an episode too.
the monotone thing was an attempt to capture samus being distant and uncaring but they fucked that up hard. instead what was shown was an emotionless robot obsessed with someone's approval.
other m was bad because of the mishandling of the source material, not the gameplay.

I like metroid when it doesn't have speaking parts. No words in the first three is great, but so was scanning stuff to learn about the story in the Primes. The games are just as much about atmosphere and isolation as they are about exploration and killing pirates.

I prefer the nonspeaking games too. prime 3 is quite enjoyable though because of the story though.
I've been playing through it on hypermode recently and I've got to hand it to retro studios on their design choices.
the actual threat of dying on hyper mode made me get very immersed in what was going on around me so I noticed the finer details on the Norion attack as well as felt urgency when the meteor appeared.
