i worked for awhile as social studies/history teacher while doing a masters over there
so 3 quick examples 1 isolated, 2 frequent: 1) fairly often students (they had local teachers that taught them their own language, they also did math/sci in both langs) would tell me that their local teachers had told them asians were genetically superior, particularly over blacks, and the greatest evidence of this was IQ scores (according to the locals), you get the drift...
2) when we were discussing the US/the recent recession, I asked why the americans were in a recession. 10 yo kid puts up his hand: "because their president is black" (kinda ylyl and horrifying all at the same time)
3) met this black guy from the states, new a cram school looking for teachers. suggested him to the "dean" and he went over. got a call later from an angry "dean" asking why I would send a black teacher, that they would never hire him (doesnt matter that hes a native speaker - this was also common, not every school, but common)
then there is the daily racism towards Filipinos (like mexicans in the us), chinese (eat babies - not kidding, heard this often), koreans (wifebeaters..), etc...
yes there is plenty of racism in the west, but these were daily occurrences, not once in awhile or 1/week
