Have you ever had your wisdom teeth removed and how was it?
One of mine has started coming through.
Was pretty uneventful. I got anesthetized and barely remember the actual procedure. The whole thing took maybe 2 hours, and my mouth was numb and barely able to chew or speak for another 4-5 hours. Felt good as new by the next morning.
>>676155157
Is it necessary?
I'm actually nervous because iknow it will hurt but my dentist says mine doesn't need to.
>>676155157
Had 2 removed, but was under anesthesia. First few days after were total shit for me.
>>676155157
had all four removed at once back in dec 2011. wasn't bad, just had to constantly taste blood in my mouth. pain wise none, since i didn't have any red pockets that became infected in my mouth. damn the drugs though before the surgery were insane.
laughing gas count down from 10...9...7...6...5...4...... knocked out.
>>676155157
i had my molars removed, why would you remove your wisdom teeth? they're your strongest teeth
forgot 8 because i was so drugged up.
All 4 removed same day while under anesthesia, didn't even touch the painkillers, it ain't too bad.
>>676155536
The drug was so strong you forgot 8..
>>676155536
>laughing gas
>>676155682

>>676155682

>>676155439
Forgot to add that I had to shoot water and some medicine into the holes in my gums after every time I ate for a few weeks. Didn't hurt, but was kind of annoying.
>>676155449
get put under anesthetic
>>676155762
i corrected myself faggot, learn to read.
3 of my 4 have broken through now.
I won't have my teeth removed until I actually need it
I've had 2 out, still have 2 in. Only some need to be removed, only ones that coming in fucked up need to be removed. Mine were taken out within 15 minutes and I got a couple stitches that dissolve after it heals. For me I had next to no pain during or after the procedure and I never took any pain medication either. It was maybe a slight bit uncomfortable and it was itchy but that was it, I think it all depends if your window teeth are impacted or not, mine weren't.
I don't have wisdom teeth, and thus never needed to get them removed.
>>676155157
Do it OP. Worth the pain meds
>>676155157
Why yes, yes I have.
> be me, 16 year old, getting them removed right before soccer tryouts.
> ended up getting 6 teeth removed.
> 2 being formed by bone in the jaw.
> wake up, and see this lady rippin the IV out of my arm.
> a little blood goes squirt, squirt.
> curb stomp her titty, my mom holds me down.
> my prick of a dad makes me go to tryouts THE NEXT DAY
> lookin like pic included.
> made varsity and got some dope meds.
All 4 of mine came in correctly. It's total bs that you need then taken out no matter what. It only needs to be done if they're giving you chronic pain.
>>676156043
which they eventually do. your point is?
Getting mine taken out soon. Crushing kind of hard on the dental assistant, I don't want to say/do anything fucked up when I get doped up.
I'm hoping I can go to work the next day, they won't let me use sick time for some reason.
>>676155157
I had all of them removed before they came out. That shit hurt a bit for the first 3 days but I got some good painkillers. Don't worry. Be prepared that your jaw will hurt way more than the stichtes. I couldn't open my mouth wide for more than a week.
>>676155727
that's what it's called
Got an I.V. which was paintstakingly hard for the surgeon to get in correctly due to not eating / drinking hours beforehand, then got the shot to go under, the after math was fucking awful, terrible pain drymouth bleeding guaze etc etc, they still arent healed and got them out 9 days ago, then again i got 6 when most people get 2
Dentist here. Give me a nice clear pic and maybe I can tellyou how hard or easy it may be. An xray is needed but lets see a pic too
>>676155157
The procedure itself wasn't so bad even though I woke up halfway through it. But they fucked up my jaw and now the right joint pops out of place sometimes. Especially while I'm eating and it hurts like a bitch when it slams back in
IF your dentist says that the wisdom teeth coming through will cause your other teeth to be displaced etc etc. that are full of shit. They won't move your other teeth, but with most people there isn't enough room for them, so they come in on an angle and other problems can arise from that.
The procedure itself won't hurt, but you'll feel like shit in the days after that. If your dentist is rough you'll probably have bruising and shit. You will be a lot sorer if they removed the tooth and it has only partially erupted. If the tooth as fully come through before they remove it, it will be a lot less painful.
>>676155157
>syringe pumping some bitter liquid in my gums.
> 3 minutes of listening to the radio and admiring my dentist's cleavage
> 5 seconds of ripping sound and a slight spike of pain when my nerve tore off
> another 3 minutes of biting onto some ball of cotton and gauze
That's all. Also I had a blood clot in my mouth for a week. It's not rly that bad.. Or my dentist is flippin good at her job.
>>676156308
no it's not, laughing gas doesn't knock people out
>>676156408
what if the tooth is in sideways?
>>676155157
Had all mine surgically removed because they were growing sideways and pressing against my back molars.
Dental surgeon shot me up with morphine (good, good, good shit). Fell asleep. Woke up, Nothing.
When the anesthesia wore off, it was one of the worst weeks of my life. Prescribed pain pills only worked for an hour. The throbbing pain easily is in my top 5 of the most miserable times of my life. Enjoy it faggot.
I got knocked out and had all 4 removed. It all depends on how they come in. My were straight just a little impacted. If they come in sideways you're gonna have a bad time.
>>676156660
Yeah well if they remove your wisdom teeth they won't knock you out. Laughing gas will sedate you but you remain fully conscious.
>>676155157
Is it pretty satisfying when they get removed?
>>676156767
I was knocked out
>>676156767
>>676156660
PS: If anon was knocked out they gave him an injection after the gas.
>>676155157
Actually had mine taken out two days ago... Wasn't bad considering it was a military doctor taking them out. Once they put the IV in it only takes one minute, I don't care who you are you ain't feelin shit.
As far as recovery goes, I feel little pain. They gave me percs, and 800mg of ibuprofen, I've just been taking ibuprofen and I feel fine, not trying to get hooked on pain meds considering I'm in the military and all...
Get them all out. You'll be glad you did.
Had mine removed in prison and got some good dope. I had to say they hurt in order to see the dentist, but they didn't really. Was totally worth it.
I died
>>676156977
Then you belong to those who were willing to pay for general anesthesia.
>>676156767
all i had for getting my molars pulled out was laughing gas, pot and a needle in my gums, laughing gas does less than pot, it's shit
>>676155157
I've had my top two removed, the dentist just injected my gum then five minutes later used his strength with a piece of metal to push them out, didn't hurt at all.
My bottom two are just coming up pretty normally, they have been half way out for about 6 years, sometimes the gum hurts when food gets stuck but it's no big deal I just gargle salty water for a few days and it fixes itself.
>>676156767
Sedated and fully conscious, huh? Nice.
Also to OP, I went to sleep and they removed all of min because they were impacted and hurt my jaw. Gave me some oxycodone but that didn't help really. I have persistent headaches and occasional migraines and the pain i was getting in my face was something like a migraine in terms of pain. Also remember that they open your jaw up pretty wide and hold it there for the duration of the surgery so opening your mouth hurts for a while.
>>676155157
Yes i did it with local anesthesia only in the mouth, first i got 1 shot and they started poking around and removing the tooth but it still hurt like hell so i got another, then another.
After 3 shots i couldn't feel the pain anymore but uptil that it was pure hell.
>>676155157
anesthesia or sedation?
>>676155157
don't worry. it's not something you like to do but it's not painful or sth else. it just tastes shitty / sounds bad when he is doing things in your mouth. after it you will spit a lot of blood and drink for some days only soup and such things. ask him for strong pain medication so you can intoxicate yourself a bit
all 4 removed. first the right side, 2 weeks later the left side. It sucks, but didnt had that much pain afterwards. 1st time it kept bleeding for a pretty long time tho.
>>676155157
I never heard of this until I came here... why do you get your wisdom teeth pulled?
>>676156408
Wrong or at least partially wrong.
Right that most people don't have enough room for them and they will come in at an angle.
Wrong that they don't cause the other teeth to become impacted.
Source: I have all four fully erupted and previously my teeth were straight and gradually, the more the wisdom came through the more they affected the surrounding teeth and it stopped when they were fully erupted.
You can cite as many sources as you like but that is based on real life experience of it actually happening.
>>676156718
This
same for me except they didnt put me under, just used topical anesthesia and shot some up in my gums
they had to saw the tops from my teeth then they took this corkscrew looking thing and twisted it into each of my teeth until they broke and sucked them out with a little vacuum. I could feel everything, it was the single worst experience of my life. whatever they shot in my gums only barely knocked the edge off the pain
the worst part was that I didnt get any drugs in me before the numbing wore off so I had this horrid throbbing pain for a couple hours until I got meds in me
awful, absolutely awful
>>676157330
I got only laughing gas. I was definitely sedated in a way that I could barely move and hardly felt any pain but my remaining senses were fully active.
>>676157768
Because they can grow out and push up against your main teeth and cause a hell of a lot of problems in the future.
>>676155157
>be me
>wisdom teeth coming
>pain
>go see dentist a few days later
>he takes X-rays and asked about pain
>pain was gone
>X-rays show wisdom teeth coming straight
>dentist says "my personal belief is if they are not bothering you, growing straight, not effecting your other teeth and your jaw is big enough, I don't recommend removing them"
>be me several years later
>still feel them move once in awhile
>get pain and headaches from it once in while
>overall not bad though
>nothing aspirin can't handle
Only get them removed if your jaw is too small or they are not growing in straight and effecting other teeth
Had my bottom two taken out. The oral surgeons office I went to tried to anesthetize me but I crashed out when the IV hit my arm and since it wasn't an out patient procedure certified office, I'm not allowed to crash and then do the procedure. So basically it was either they do it without the anesthesia or I reschedule at the out patient place. Obviously I said fuck it lets get it over with.
8 or so novacain shots in the mouth later and he was drilling and cracking away at the two teeth on bottom. I was completely awake just numb. I remember the abmount of force the dude was having to use to break those teeth into chunks before tweezing them out piece by piece. That and the actual sound of the tooth breaking apart was pretty brutal.
All 4 at once under sedation. Best day of my life. 11/10, would do again.
Had mine taken out a year ago. 2 at a time, was peanuts. 7 syringes and out in 5 minutes or so. Easy peasy
>>676157944

Some people dont even get affected by them. Mostly start to come out of the gums though during 20-25 age ranges. but some people have no issues one bit.

It just depends on jaw size. Only reason we remove wisdom teeth is because over evolutionary time our jaws have been getting smaller and typical mess with our other teeth when they come in

>>676158306
Jaws are not getting smaller. Previously there was no dental hygiene at all and some if not all the teeth had rotted away. So wisdom teeth were not a problem and actually a neccessity to replace the lost teeth.
>>676158485
Toes are needed for balance, there are ways round that but I don't think evolution will get rid of them, just lie an appendix they are here to stay.
Look up vestigial organ.

>which they eventually do
Is this the same kind of American retard-logic that says 'general anestetic' for a simple tooth extraction? Is it the same kind of logic that says a dentist with very little training in anesthesiology can give you laughing gass or put you under, even though in hospitals this requires a highly trained doctor, a specialized field in medicine, to do it for surgery and monitor the patient while he or she is under?
Because if that's the kind of backward shit reasoning you're using, then yeah, I can totally see your wisdom teeth ALWAYS giving EVERYBODY pain just because. Probably get your appendix removed after childbirth too, right? A two-for-the-price-of-one procedure along with the medically unnecessary circumcision.
Neat-o.

>Jaws are not getting smaller
Oh yes they are. Since we no longer need to shred trough raw mat or chew on stringy roots, we have naturally gotten smaller jaws. Both in terms of smaller jaw muscles and thinner, smaller jaw bones.

One thing to look forward to is after my surgery, I never had TMJ. After my surgery, I noticed every time I opened my mouth my jaws would make a loud popping sound.
I went back to my dental surgeon and asked him about this. He basically just told me to fuck off and that he did a great job and there was nothing wrong with me.
>>676155157
if nothing goes wrong then you'll feel little pain. You'll just be outta commission for a few days cause, ya know.. surgery.
The thing to worry about is if any of a number of little things goes wrong. The two most common, as far as i can tell, is dry socket and if the doc leave a little piece of tooth in the gum. Dry socket would be your fault cause you smoke or use a straw like a bitch. the tooth chip thing happened to my sister and she said it hurt like a bitch.
I got Lortabs and Valium after mime got pulled. Doc didn't even knock me out just pumped me full of pain meds. It was wonderful! I felt everything! They crunched my wisdoms up into quarters and then just gently slid them out one at a time. then they put em in a baggie and game them to me as my mom drove me home. I don't do pills so i was stoned outta my gourd for the next week.
Found out at dinner a few years later that Doc killed himself when he and his large male secretary got caught embezzling... or some shit.
>>676155157
i had 3 taken out under LOCAL anesthesia. 2 were impacted fully beneath the gum. It doesnt really hurt during the procedure but you can hear everything and they drill like crazy. It also smells of burning tissue. Pretty uncomfortable. General anesthesia will cost u double. Pain afterwards was moderate
>>676155157
We survived thousands of years with fucked up wisdom teeth. Unless it really bothers your eating and such painful etc, have it removed. If not, why bother? I have 4 of mine and the 2 below are on sideways. Not hurting or anything so i dont really pay attention to it.
Had all 4 of mine out over the summer. They didn't put me under. They gave me laughing gas and novocaine. It didn't hurt at all except for the injections which were mild. My mouth was numb for like 5 hours after and I sat around drooling blood which was gross. Otherwise I'd say it was no big deal.

Also, the wisdom teeth were pushing up against the back teeth which caused a cavity. They were very hard to keep clean so I had swollen gums in the back.

Seriously? It took you guys less than 30 minutes to have it extracted? My mom wanted to save money and did the procedure in Asia. It was less than $30 per tooth but the dentist shattered the tooth with vice grlips and it took 2 hours to remove everything for that one tooth and with very little anesthesia.
It costs about $400 in Canada, dental plan would cover 45%.

Nice terrible greentext fag
Had one removed because it was nearly impossible to brush and it eventually cracked due to caries, the others I've left in because they haven't been much of a problem. Were a little painful at times, but it passed and they haven't fucked up my other teeth.
Procedure was just me lying in a chair, having a syringe into the back of my mouth and then standard extraction, didn't take very long and only took some light painkillers during the next day.
I had mine removed a couple years ago, all four were impacted in the gums. They didn't put me on very much of the IV anesthetic due to me having a bad reaction to it as a child, doc cranked up the gas to concentration camp level to compensate. I just remember being in a half conscious state aware of everything they were doing but not really caring. I didn't feel a thing but the sound of them scraping and yanking shit was the worst part. Then my girlfriend drove me home where I bumped into the door, the kitchen counter, the coffee table, the couch, and the coffee table again before she helped me lay on the couch where I passed out for 18 hours. When I came to, my cheeks were completely black and swolen, and I had to take these big ass antibiotic pills, which sucked because the gause pads and the pain and swelling made it hard to swallow. The pain mess were great, still have like half the bottle left.

Had two removed: one was impacted (growing nearly ideways, pushing the row of teeth forward). It was a local anesthetic. Dc had to break the tooth three times to be able to get the pieces out. Sure I could tell what was going on, but except for the shock of the breaks, I couldn't feel a thing. Took about half an hour. They gave me pain pills to last a few days, never needed/took one. The other tooth over the years grew into the gap left by the vacant tooth. That too was local, and was out in a few minutes. Prescription for pills, never needed to fill it.

It sucks for the first 10 days after its hard to eat
Both on left were removed. Anaesthesiac induced sleep, although I woke up once to my head going forward and back on the headrest. No pain or panic at that. I went back to sleep.
The best part was waking up to the far-fucking-out legal mellow of viewing a hill in fall colours outside the office. It was the first time that I realized why people did downers.
One minor complication: I developed a slight infection when the penicillin Rx ran out. I continued to use salt water rinse and the gums returned to normal.

The procedure is as simple as it comes. You get prepped, they tell you what is going to happen, they put you under, they extract the teeth, stitch you up, you eventually wake up, and boom, surgery is over. But the healing process takes roughly two weeks and you'll feel like shit the first couple of hours. And don't be surprised if you throw up blood. It is simply because you keep swallowing it and your stomach can only hold so much blood for you throw it back up again.
I've heard it hurts for some people.
I had it done by a good dentist and didn't feel a thing.
I had all four of them removed at once when i was like 14 or something.

I got removed while I was awake because I didn't want them sticking a needle in my arm. They just put a fuck ton of Novocaine in my mouth with needles tho but better than having to see them stick a needle in my arm. Took like an hour max. Lot of blood. He had trouble removing the bottom ones I think and had to use a drill to split them. Only thing I felt was some pressure. No pain. Put some gauze in my mouth after and I drove home. Worst part is not being able to eat anything for like a few days. I also had a bunch of food get stuck in my new holes for like 3 weeks so I had to gargle quite often. It was gross.
