What is the 4chan extension?
It's a plugin for your browser, that adds some really cool functionalities.
It changes the layout to a more user-friendly one.
It warns you everytime you are mentioned, your messages and the messages in which you are mentioned appear marked, more useful.
The threads uptade themselves automatically, I know that's not new, but it's another user-friendly functionality.
You can mark threads to find them without using the catalog. The most common marked threads are loli, waifu, g/fur ...etc
There's a loli functionality: it adds an automatic reverse image search! It's a link ipdb attached to every image posted on 4chan, it redirects you to a multi-service image search engine, with no need of downloading the image.
There's another link attached to the images, that locates the pic on google.
But now the most important feature, the extension let's you see the names.
When you see the names, you know which person is posting all the good pics and has all the merit he deserves.
You can have your own name too, but that's against the rules, you do it under your own risk.
There's a lot of people who do that, namefags, the waifu threads are filled.
And there's much, much more to it. That I don't remember, or that I don't use, because I don't understand.

Once installed, please don't use a name today, because probably the mods have been watching us promoting the extension, and last time I teached someone to use that extension, we used the names, to test it, and that got us all banned (for 3 days).
Choose 4chanX instead of appchan if you have any doubts, it works fine for me.
