Draw from life/reality. Once you understand a few fundamentals and basic forms you'll be able to turn it around in your head and stylize and simplify it as much as you want.
People assume you move from cartooning to reality, but actually, it's the other way around. You need to understand how it works before you can manipulate it.

Because they are useless. Plain and simple. The subject they touch can only mean anything to already taught artists who have nothing to learn from them.
As a dabbling artist, you will need practice and refferences. You will need to study photos to understand concepts like color theory, anatomy, perspective.
Those tutorial make it seems like you can skip these steps. You can't. And after a number of years spent following those shit, you will find your level capped and will have to go through the tedious process of relearning EVERYTHING properly.
Spare yourself that, and train normally.

Every crease, line, shadow, folds of skin on the knuckles, hair on the back of your palms, fingernails, where the light strikes and fades against each finger. Then flip it over and do the palm. Extra credit for fingerprints.
