Chicken liver can taste a bit strong by themselves though. I prefer calf liver to it for that reason.

I went to a restaurant once that was also a brewhouse. I ordered what was called something along the lines of a portobello steak sandwich, which I assumed would be like a cheesesteak, with portobellos. If you are near the coast there is a 100% chance that P. Cubenisis grows there. Check any cow pasture near the gulf 3 days after a good rain. You will find shrooms growing on cow patties.
Be sure to get a good guide book to verify but they are super easy to identify. They bruise blue, take a spore print and make sure they don't have rust or brown colored spores, there are poisonous species that look kinda similar to the untrained eye. The good ones have black prints.

Maybe I have just never had good lasagna, but I generally dislike pasta, and basic rice products because they are bland as fuck, mixed with my least enjoyed topping on anything, Tomatoes.
These combinations just leave me saying, I could be eating a succulent steak, or some spicy stir fry/curry. Instead I'm eating this bland pasty crap.
It tastes like you are eating a block of cheese, only cheese is actually good, because it has flavor.

I think Scotland has us beat there actually. Now that I think about it, the Southern Appalachians were heavily settled by Scots. It's where my ancestors came from. It probably isn't surprising that we have such an affinity for fried and sweet (or preferably both) foods.
I was raised on two things as a kid: Country Crock (fake butter) and Miracle Whip. Once I tasted real butter and real mayonnaise, I could not go back. I figure they can't possibly be more unhealthy than putting things similar to plastic on a molecular level in my stomach.

Yeah the main host species for them are elm, which there are nearly none of in the wild around here. They grow around ash near here but are very uncommon. They are picked in huge number where you live.
