About the 1200 calories thing. The person I knew had severe sleep issues, and was unable to sleep for more than maybe an hour a day, plus having just having had a kid not very long before. She was physically unable to lose weight at any normal rate, as a result of these things. Once she'd solved the sleep issues, which was not a short process, she was then able to lose weight at a regular rate.
People can have difficulties, more than just "oh exercising is hard", with losing weight. Deny that if you want, but it's not just a personal belief.
