Because they're paid to do it. And I do know quite a bit about the production of comics seeing as how I produce them and have produced them for 11 years. One person inking is the exact same as another person inking. As long as they can trace the lines they're fine. You're putting WAY more stock into the ink than you should because again THE INKING IS LITERALLY JUST TRACING WHAT THE PENCILER DID.
I got that because I know how long it takes the industry to make a single comic. It takes a person 24 hours? Well it took Ub Iwerks 2 weeks to animate the very first Mickey Mouse cartoon (which was 13 minutes long). Just because one person can work incredibly fast or has no problem burning themselves out with work doesn't mean that becomes the standard amount of time. It takes the Simpsons staff something like 6 months from start to finish for a single episode, yet they're releasing new ones weekly. They're able to do that because, just like in the comic industry, just like in every industry, the process from start to finish is constantly going. They don't write a comic, then stop and wait for the penciler, then wait for the inking, then wait for the lettering. Instead they've got a dozen comics that need to be worked so while one person is doing one thing another person can work on something else. It's also why becoming a penciler at a place like Marvel is so difficult.

This is just wrong. Just because you can't tell inkers apart and you've never seen what Marvel's pencillers' style looks like without inks, it doesn't mean the inks don't matter. You're just a buffoon if you say this out loud around professional artists. Just go look at the series of variant covers that Neal Adams has done recently - they were all inked by a different superstar artist. Compare how different they all are; some of them seem like they come from a different artist altogether.
And a publisher having to push a book months ahead because the artist took longer than he was paid to hurts the retailers who have to order from solicitations; a key part of comic books, but I'm sure you don't need me to explain it to you, since you supposedly worked in them. It's unprofessional from an artist to go beyond deadlines.

No. Simonson made the image more blocky and simpler, because that's his style. When Adams was inked by Lee, there was more crosshatching, because that's Lee's style. If you believe inking is tracing then you must be a lousy inker. Someone who isn't a penciller himself and doesn't know about anatomy can't ink at all, as Richard Friend likes to say in interviews. You're just talking out of your ass, and this isn't even related to Hawkeye.

Lee and Yanick Paquette are two DC artists who also work issue-by-issue, to name a couple. Why would they skip to a next issue before completing the previous one? It isn't animation.
Let's assume they take a few months, anyway. A few months isn't a year. Hawkeye almost took a year to produce a single issue. Why are you getting so tangled up over the fact that this is unprofessional? It just is.

It's not the INKER who determines the style either. It's the writer of that particular run. The inkers have no say in how things are going to get put down, they just ink. The writers and creators do, the pencilers then come in and lay the frame work down for the rest of the people. The inker then just traces the pencils. You have no idea what the fuck you're talking about and it's apparent. Richard Friend is defending a practice that literally can be done by children with basic coordination.
