I think you answered your own question. I thing a satellite can only be so far up to manetane an orbit. Any higher and the satellite is lost in to space.

I'm sure a lot of the variation can be attributed to the advancement in technology, the movement of weather systems and not all continents are the same colour, some are dry deserts, others are green forests and scrub lands. But Nasa have admitted to editing the colours in photos such as ones of mars so that it would more accurately portray what people expected so I wouldn't be surprised if 1997 to 2007 were enhanced to get people more excited about the whole space exploration and discovery thing.

And this, ladies and gentelmen, is what is called "scientific illiteracy"

this person has the same sort of brain as say, a 18th century peasant farmer in siberia, being presented with a copy of an encyclopaedia. Doesnt matter that th entire sum of mankind's knowledge is at their fingertips, when they're unable to read any of it.

specifically, the sort of idiotic shit with people saying "that's CGI". when they dont know what the source of an image is, instantly dismissing it.

100,000 years ago, these idiots would be the ones going "Ug said that the big yellow things with manes and sharp teeth eat humans. Well, I dont believe that!" before walking out into the savannah. 10,000 years ago, they'd be the one who was told the mushrooms were tasty, but dont eat the red ones, and would promptly go out and try a red one.

the shame is, today, they dont get weeded out the gene pool for their idiocy.

Nothing to do with driving economies. Just the fact they are scientifically illiterate

they are presented with images, and yell "CGI" or "Sheep" without any actual understanding of the science involved... they are simply illiterate.

Its akin to looking at this picture, and concluding that because you cant read the words, that means there's no proof the earth revolves around the sun.

From a scientific standpoint it would be interesting to see what colors need to be enhanced to really see things in the image. Maybe pictures from space can't really capture the blue like we think.

The other post was color corrected this one is not.

Sadly it is NOT the entire planet as it is in shadow as to why there are none. None have yet been taken. You can make requests at the NASA website or create a petition at https://petitions.whitehouse.gov

>>
>>675435852
>I agree they shouldn't edit the photographs at all

the problem with that is, the images would be shit. Utterly shit.

take those amazing photos of Pluto. what you actually got was a dark grey image, on a black background, lit with a light the size of pen torch from the other side of the room. They are simply impossible to see detail in.

pictures like the 2012 version of the "blue marble" are composited, the cameras taking the pics dont do a wide-angle shot. so you get "strips" of view of the earth, as it rotates. so they're all sewn together to make an image that is visible.

Some, like >>675434283 and >>675435419 are a pure photograph, from back in the 60's when they used film. the only retouching done on those has been to scan the negatives, and clean up any dust, scratches etc, and fix any loss of colour due to 40 years' storage.
>>
The problem with taking a photograph of Earth, that satellites cannot be outside earth orb.
If the satellite were very long away from the earth, then it will get burnt by the sun.
The man on the moon was also proven to be false.
Making a picture of earth, they take pictures and merge together and put it on a sphere.
>>
I'd like to put out there that conspiracy theorists are the actual sheep, letting themselves be led astray by anyone with the ability to make and upload a video to youtube, or before, by anyone who could make a website with all text in caps (that's just about everyone on the internet).

I build this shit for a living bitch, what the fuck do you know? Are you making the claim that the pictures are 100% fake? then you're hopeless. Are you saying that its a real picture but the hues are corrected? then who gives a fuck its a picture of the fucking red planet.

My question was not about the "Theory of evolution".

It was about how the "Darwin Awards" effect the average person view of the theory.

Darwin Award are presented to folks who have removed themselves from participation in the gene pool? That has little effect on the Theory either proving disproving or teaching folks about it. It really isn't related at all. (Unless you think men are fools due to genetics? I think folks are willfully ignorant... That's a choice not to read and view things with an open and curious mind...

Steve Irwin was a very intelligent man, yet he still did stupid shit. And it ended up killing him.

Dude' it's armchair reasoning. If you make a big mutation it's very likely to be bad. If you make a tiny mutation it is 50/50. Think about focusing a microscope. Make a huge adjustment and the sample will either dissapear from view or you'll smash right through it. Make a tiny adjustment and there's a 50/50 chance it will bring the sample into better focus.

Don't get caught up in rhetoric, concentrate on what is attempted to be communication. "Prefers" is just a phrase I used to give an over view of what's going on. For example DNA doesn't 'want' to replicate, replication as a characteristic will automatically proliferate.

If the earth was flat it would contradict so many navigational devises. The entire system of using trigpoints for cartography would not work. Nor would navigation by stars or sundial. The ego of an individual who could comprehend an environment where upon a flat planet could exist with all the laws of a spherical in place just for that individual to exist in, beggars belief. Sounds like it's fingerboxes all the way down.

>I'm just a friendly reminder that all these things you are posting require at least a certain amount of belief for you to accept them as true.

Incorrect.

What it requires is an amount of understanding.

I understand the basics of physics - newtonian laws, gravitational constants. I have done experiments which measure those in labs, as a kid. I can conclude that the fundamental basics of orbital mechanics appear to be as they are published, from the examples I've tried.
I also understand that a rocket will go upwards when chemical reactions occur. Make it big enough, you get it to go very high indeed. I also understand the principles of photography and what that involves. Therefore, even though I do not understand the attitude control systems of a satellite, I can make an educated conclusion that the people with a budget a metric fucktonne bigger than my old university days, can angle the camera, satellite, orbiter module, or whatever, to get a good picture.
In the words of newton to Hooke, this is to "stand upon the shoulders of giants". I understand and appreciate that they have performed actions greater than those I have, and all evidence indicates their processes are sound.

it doesnt take "belief". I do not "believe" that Nasa magically put a camera in place to take the Blue Marble, any more than I have to "believe" that there is currently a plane at my local airport, even though I cannot physically see the airport from my window. I know that this has taken place. All evidence indicates it. If you have to prove everything, then let me tell you, red mushrooms with white dots are poisonous. Since you cannot believe this without proof, go on, eat one. Have fun.

We as a species have grown because we are capable of taking the facts demonstrated by others, and accept them. If we all had to somehow prove every first principle, we'd still be bashing rocks together and teaching how to make fire.
>>
>>675437507
They do, you are clearly just retarded.

The clouds don't appear to move because they actually move across the Earth's surface quite slowly (about 30 or 40 mph), so in the 12 hour period that you can see a continent the clouds only move a few hundred miles, which isn't that noticeable.

You can skip or speed up the video to see it more easily.
>>
>>675437714
Yes but at a certain point you need to accept that the world does, in fact, exist.

You sound like a skeptic. Aristotle quipped on the skeptics quite a while ago. He said, "The skeptics state that they don't believe in anything, but I find it funny that none of them have ever walked off a cliff or stood in a fire."

Actually to some extent he is right Anon.

Science is about what we observe and can prove. Theory is about what we suspect to be true.

If you did not observe it you are taking on faith the claims of those who did.

Note I do not disagree with Astronaught they are still around and can be questioned.

I do how ever debate Evolution in as much as I do not believe mankind evolved from single cell organisms. Not that I could not one day be convinced, but right now I simply say Science calls Evolution a Theory which makes it a best guess. Verses Rocket Science which is currently going on and is proven every day.

I certainly would debate big bang theory, string theory and many other guesses at what is actually happening out there in that great big universe...

Many men tell me things which I doubt. Others prove what they say beyond all doubt.

So I am Pro Space flight and Pro Observable Science. Anti - Theory of HUMAN Evolution.

But I have to get some sleep before work.

So feel free to reply I will read it later.

here you go then. An image (see pic), with the following information from NASA:

>View of the Earth as seen by the Apollo 17 crew traveling toward the moon. This translunar coast photograph extends from the Mediterranean Sea area to the Antarctica south polar ice cap. This is the first time the Apollo trajectory made it possible to photograph the south polar ice cap. Note the heavy cloud cover in the Southern Hemisphere. Almost the entire coastline of Africa is clearly visible. The Arabian Peninsula can be seen at the northeastern edge of Africa. The large island off the coast of Africa is the Malagasy Republic. The Asian mainland is on the horizon toward the northeast.
>Metadata
>Data Date: December 7, 1972
>Visualization Date: January 31, 2001
>Sensor(s): Photograph

From a quick check on Apollo 17's command module cameras from the Lunar and Planetary Institute: lpi.usra.edu/lunar/missions/apollo/apollo_17/photography/

>Various tasks were also accomplished using four command module cameras: a 70-millimeter Hasselblad electric camera, a 16-millimeter Maurer DAC, a 35-millimeter Nikon, and a Westinghouse color TV camera.

We know this was a still, so its not the 16mm DAC, or the Westinghouse.

Therefore, we have from this data, the knowledge that this image was taken using either a 35mm Nikon, or a 70mm Hassleblad, on Kodak film stock (the standard stock for all NASA missions then). it was taken on december 7th '72, and digitised from the negative on January 31st 2001, into the JPG format seen on this image, today.

There's the information you demand.

No I am actually quite correct.

Look up the word theory, it is not synonomous with FACT..

We do not even know what color the skin of various dinosaurs were. No one can prove that all life on Earth evolved. It is that simple.

No one observed it. And they admit we are simply guessing at what occurred.

Most take it on faith that the information we have is accurate. Perhaps you better go to a few museaums and find out what percentage of the skeltons you view are actually fossils and how much are polymers and clay that various scientist have cobbled together into best guesses of what any particular dinosaur looked like much less what color they may have been.

"Darwin's theory of evolution"
synonyms: hypothesis, thesis, conjecture, supposition, speculation, postulation, postulate, proposition, premise, surmise, assumption, presupposition;

Pay close attention to those synonyms anon.

Of course if Science would like to relabel it the "LAW of Evolution" I am OK with that. We can have a much better argument then because I can then call them outright liars.

>>
>>675440011
>but whats your point?
>that you have access to google?
>what is your point?

the point is, that the facts are out there, for anyone with half a working brain cell to find.

screaming "sheep" when someone posts a picture, or claiming "there's no proof" or all that shit is simply that: shit.

the facts are there. it simply requires the scientific literacy to search for the data to corroborate the image with further data. A photograph of a petri dish is meaningless. a photo of a petri dish with the data in the form of what's in it, when it was taken, where the samples from, is proof you have cancer. or TB, or bubonic plague, or whatever.

This is called the scientific method - collecting data, and citing the sources used.

And if people do not understand that, then all the evidence in the world is worthless to them, because they do not comprehend what information they need to get.

People have known the world to be a sphere since the 6th century BC. The whole idea that the Earth is flat came up during the Enlightenment period as a way of looking back on history and feeling superior.

Balance is what you see as the result because of quite simple dynamics:

Too many predators->population of prey decreases to a point where not all predators survive->predator population goes down->less predators means more prey survives->more to ear for predators->predators' number get's stronger->repeat.
>>
>>675441087
>some details about the camera do not prove that its real.

No, it provides evidence that indicates the origin.

So I have the option: Either: 1. I use my understanding, that I know that NASA goes to space, that Nikon and Hassleblad produce film cameras, and therefore a nikon or hassleblad used by NASA is likely a picture in space...

Or, I lurch onto the slippery slope of concluding that EVERYTHING IS FAKE WTFOMGBBQ SHEEP!!1one etc.
At which point, then I can safely conclude that reptilian venusians are controlling the muslim Obama while the planet nimburu is about to approach and destroy all life at the start of the Age of Aquarius, or the year of the fruitbat. But the realigning of the crystal chakras will protect me with the positive ions emanated from my Chi.
Or something.

The facts are this: the image is cited, dated, and sourced. We know the date it was taken, we even know when it was digitised. We know the film stock it was on, we know the sort of camera. We know it was on the translunar stage of apollo 17 mission, and therefore we can with more research, even work out where it was taken, and cross-reference that to positions of the sun at that time, etc, to further corroborate the data. Or, I can not see the need to start from first principles, I do not need to squat in a cave, chipping flints together to get a spark for a fire, because I can stand on the shoulders of giants, as Newton said. Therefore, I can comfortably understand that the data provided is sufficient evidence, knowing that the image is cited by an internationally-respected science body to indicate its veracity.

ctd:

I have no need to leap to the slippery slope of paranoid delusion that everything is fake. This is because I am sufficiently educated to have seen that the fundamental principles of science used by NASA are sound. therefore, I may extrapolate that more advanced stages are equally as verifiable given sufficient resources - and the fact the soviets, who had sufficient resources to do so and every reason in the world to reveal any such duplicity on the behalf of thier arch-enemies' actions, and yet didnt cry foul at the hight of the cold war indicates its not faked, for example. Therefore, I have corroborating evidence that the advanced stages beyond my personal means of testing are valid. Therefore, I can conclude that the image is verifiable.

the alternative, quite simply, is to leap onto irrational conspiracies, and all sorts of idiocy which have no resemblance to reality, and in many cases (such as the flat earthers, as one example.) contradict the fundamental basics which I have been able to verify with the more meagre resources at my disposal.

It is, therefore, my educated reasoning, that the data contained in such a photograph is verifiable, and there is no cause to doubt its origin.

What's more likely

NASA release a photo of that after years and years of build up and public spending, with hugely public launches and speeches and parades, with thousands and thousands of people employed with intimate knowledge and awareness of the operations, and the photo looks how we expect it to look and is in line with what we would do if we were in a position to take that photo

Or, after all that, it's a fake photo. Someone made it on a computer for some unknown reason (complexity penalty too)

So, obviously you can't say for certain, but that's true for fucking everything. What you do is make your best educated rational decision, so stop being a stupid faggot and accept it

So its just a shade of difference in risk levels between assuming something is real vs another thing? And a rational person evaluates these levels before acting in the real world?
There! I have led you by degrees to the truth you have been seeking.

No, you can't see them with store bought telescopes.

The Palamoar telescope has a bit higher resolution than your home bought ones.

You're the one arguing against the mainstream claim. Given the preponderance of evidence (such as Erastothenes' shadow, the equations of thermodynamics, photos having been taken and the inability to see certain constellations at different latitudes) you're the one who has to prove his hypothesis.

That said, if you do manage to prove it you would become one of the most famous and celebrated scientists in the world. You'd have overthrown the entirety of modern astrophysics in doing so and disproven people like Einstein, Newton and Hawking. You'd be heralded as a genius. So why don't you?

>you do know that machu pichu cannot be dated

"Citation needed"
Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472).

We may not have its exact year, but we know what century it was built in, if not decade.

> and its a feat that cannot be replicated ....

Again, "citation needed". There's nothing preventing its construction.

>with the tech now whats to say that their science isnt betten ours??? im confused if people had build pyramids in a time they believed that the world was flat ... and we ourselves cannot recreate the pyramids i think their science was 10 times more reliable then ours now just saying

... you're a fucking moron, you know that? You are profoundly illiterate in science, and history. You have little understanding of these subjects, yet make absurd statements like "and we ourselves cannot recreate the pyramids" as if they're some impossible object.
They're not. Want to know what prevents the construction of a pyramid today? Money. give me 20 billion dollars, and I could build a pyramid, using nothing but egyptian age tech, and 10,000 workers. We know fine well how that was done. We know how Stonehenge was built. We know how machu picchu was made. You are entirely ignorant on the subjects of archaeology.

A hypothesis is something we suspect and if it has been proven in different ways and the foundation of proof is trock solid, then it becomes a theory. A theory then is a model of reality. We know models are not and can not be perfect, but we're improving them. I wouldn't know of a theory that has undergone the scientific process and has been disproven, it's really only details that are changed due to better measuring. Also the number of scientific theories may be way lower than you thing it is.

Evolution is a theory.
Gravity is a theory.
String theory for example is NOT a scientific theory (it's really due to Ameritards getting the term 'theory' wrong), it's a hypothesis.

What would someone need to prove to you that evolution happened? You said you believe in rocket science, because it is proven everyday, HOWEVER rocket science consists of a number of fields in wich there are theories (actual scientific theories, not string 'theory' faith) that have a LESS good foundation than evolution has.

You probably (assuming here) say gravity is real because you can verify it by dropping a ball and, it will always fall down onto earth.

Now dropping a ball is about as much a proof of gravity than micro evolution (which is a creationist term, it's really just called evolution) is of evolution.

We could thing of thousands of possible models which would produce the outcome of the ball hitting earth (including a flat earth), but wouldn't hold up to all the other components we have found to proof gravity. The point is, the human capability of observing is just not enough to proof a theory. And that includes evolution.

"Micro" evolution is the ball-drop equivalent to evolution. It's a tiny small portion of what we can observe and then there's SO MUCH MORE evidence we've found to validate evolution as a theory, the most important ones being the fossil record and the discovery of DNA and the ways it works.
(comment too long, hope the point came across.

and if you proved these daft claims, and wiped away all the errors from newton, etc, you would be instant Nobel Prize winning material. The nobel prize would make you a millionaire overnight.

Hardly an excuse, is it? So, why arent you proving that the world is flat, that gravity doesnt exist, that the sun revolves around the earth, or one of the hundreds of other pseudoscience claims that have no bearing in reality? Dont you want to be heralded as the greatest mind in science, who brought a golden age of knowledge forth? So how do you know norway exists? Or Europe? Or Africa? You have looked at MAPS. Fucking MAPS that are actually COMPLETELY drawn. You wouldn't take a photograph as good enough evidence (which is fine, I wouldn't either) but then you have blind faith in a drawing?

Arbitrary skepticism is unbecoming of you, anon. It's good to have doubts about what you read. Skepticism is the heart of the scientific method. It's just that there has to be a point where you accept the proof laid out in front of you as good enough, otherwise it's not skepticism, it's faith, and there's no way to argue against that.

There's no way to absolutely 100% prove anything in this universe, which is why even our most thought out and 'proven' theories are just highly educated guesses. Trying to prove something absolutely is the realm of philosophy more than science.

So if you really want strong proof of a spherical Earth, go read some scientific journals. Repeat experiments that others have done to see if they work. Head up to John o'Groats and measure the shadows on the solstice, then drive down to Land's End and do the same the day after. You can fairly accurately estimate the circumference of the planet if you take measurements, too.

Flat Earthers say they want us to prove them wrong using science, but that's not how science works. We've got our theories and they fit the evidence/experiments better than anything else, and the best part is that you could replicate them yourself if you put the time and effort in to doing so. So given that there is already 'proof' out there for our argument, the onus is on the Flat Earthers to debunk them.

that point is obviously reached quickly by some
far to quickly by other and possible not at all by the rest....
reminder - you dont need to accept it
there is no point where you 'have' to accept it

and if something is so black and white that no acceptance is needed, well, then theres that too.

I consider Gravity to be a law,
There IS sufficient evidence IMHO to support Planetary movements etc.

I consider Evolution a Theory.
Because the evidence you propose is simply NOT there. As I said when IO go looking for those mid evolution creatures I don't find them.

The Sea Creatures that evolved to walk on land?
I know most like to say that Evolution does NOT claim men descended from Apes but that depend on which book you read and which men you ask. I think that is simply a guess and it is wrong. I accept adaptation. Rabbits ears getting longer or shorter color changes due to environment or climate. Certainly.

But no fruit flys have become beetles or birds or have Evolved in to anything other than fruit flys.
The Platypus utterly baffles me.

I am not a young Earth creationist. I think the evidence supports that the Earth is millions or billions of years old. I just don't think mankind evolved from Neanderthal etc.

I also have done enough study to realize that while organized religion is mostly full of shit. God is not. I don't think he created the universe in 7 days. And when Properly translated the books of the People of Abraham do not say so either. But now I am really derailing this thread.

Science certainly is working its way towards the truth. But they need to accept that many of us are ignorant, and some of us are stubborn.

If you want to fly us to the Moon or to Mars feel free. If you want to grow enough food to feed everyone feel free.

If you want to prove God is not our Creator FUCK OFF. Certainly feel free to correct the misinformation in the books of the people of Abraham. Just don't try top sweep it all away because "Evolution".

Religion still stands in the way of a lot of Progress. So take it out on the liars in the funny hats not on God.

The truth lies some where in between what those "holy" books say and what Science is discovering every day.

I try to be reasonable.

But some folks just have to mock my faith rather then just moving forward and doing what really needs to be done.
