Why dont airports just make thread mills for airplanes? Would take up less space and planes don't need fuel to take off
Fuck off Gavin

nice b8
The treadmills would have to be huge, it's not economically viable.

>>675382082
You do realize airplanes require lift to fly, right? What are you retarded? A thread mill would just spin the wheels. Kill yourself.
>>675382082
Do you have any idea how much power it would consume? Its stupid and inefficient
Fuck, dude. That's a really good question. But I think once it started going fast (the wheels) and as soon as it would lift off a tab bit, it'd hit the non-moving air and just fall down again.
Planes take off because as they move forward, the air beneath the wing pushes the plane up. If it was on a treadmill, it wouldnt move forward and the plane couldnt take off
A treadmill will not affect take off distance. The thrust of the jets will push the plane forward regardless of what speed the wheels are spinning at. Its not like a car where the power is transmitted through the wheels...

Because the wings would clip the console supports when it took off you triple nigger.
Yes, it will take off, however, you need to remove the upright supports for the display panel, or the wings will be sheared off.
>>675382082
How would they stop? When a plane lands it needs space to slowly lose velocity so everyone on board doesn't get whiplash. If you tried using a small treadmill it wouldn't work
>>675383754
Are you actually retarded? there is no airflow going under the wings, therefore no lift. think of it this way: try putting your hand out the window of a car and tilt up slightly. Your hand will naturally want to rise. Now try putting your hand above a treadmill. Nothing will happen because there's no air flow.
>>675384152
BTW he is at least a quadruple nig nog
>>675383754
No. Not if the airplane has 0 airspeed.
Just because it travels however fast on a treadmill does not mean that it has any airspeed which is what keeps an airplane in the air.
An airplane could technically be flying in place over the ground and be going 60mph airspeed.
Source I'm a flight instructor
>>675384392
thrust, dummy
>>675384392
Trust me I understand that. But think of this. How does a plane move forward? The jets speed up air and push it out the back. The engines will push forward on the planes no matter what speed the wheels are going, and thus there will always be air flow.
>>675384657
lol, is a plane not a rocket, go to school nigga

Think about it. The power is not transmitted through the wheels. The acceleration of the plane is caused by the jet or prop, which will move it with respect to the ground, aka airspeed... Doesn't matter if its on the treadmill or not, the prop or jet will push the plane with respect to the EARTH not the treadmill

Just flip it upside down

Try running on a tread mill without the display in front at full speed and jump
You're going to run off the treadmill at maximum speed and jump just as far as you would if you were running on a trackfield
Yes it works you dumbasses
>>675385206
No. Otherwise we wouldn't need wings to fucking fly. We need lift to fly which requires wings and air flowing over them

>>675383024
>beneath the wing

Oh my god, no more replies from you until you learn how planes work
>>675387206
Yes, when the jet pushes the plane forward, there is air flowing over the wings and therefore there is lift
>>675386954
Technically the wind goes above and below. But it's essentially split in half and the upper half moves faster but has lower pressure while the bottom half goes slower yet gas higher pressure. I could go on
>>675387631
No since the airplane has zero groundspeed it is not going through the air. Holy fucking shit I'm arguing with a retard.
This is why I don't teach children
Too many retards in here.
Step 1: Airplane moves over the threadmill in the opposite direction.
Step 2: Accelerate the threadmill an equal quantity as the thrusters accelerate the plane. Plane remains still but its relative speed is very high.
Step 3: Stop threadmill. The plane doesn't change its speed. It starts moving from the same point at the optilal speed to lift.
Step 4: Plane takes off in 90% less distance.
Step 5: Pay massive electric bills to move the monster which makes the plane stay still.
Step 6: (?)
Now GTFO
Well...
>>675382082
think very carefully about the implications of putting a plane on a treadmill and why it's a stupid idea. if you fail to grasp it, kill yourself by jumping in front of a plane or dropping a treadmill on yourself. if you do grasp it, kill yourself anyways just to be safe
>>675382082
No, you need airflow over the wings to create lift.
>>675387895
SOMEONE GETS IT!
Will not work. The planes velocity relative to the air surrounding it is zero resulting in 0 lift.
Case closed
>>675385206
i think he means use the treadmill as a sort of catapult. if not then he's fucking retarded.
>>675388226
Under the wings...
>>675387895
If in fact the airplane does move forward which would mean a lot of different things then yes it should takeoff
>>675387831
You're the retard. Think about how a jet works. It pushes the plane forward, and the wheels are just there so it can roll. Imagine pushing a toy car or something. Now put that toy car on a treadmill. Push it forward and notice that it moves forward. The only difference is that the wheels are spinning much faster. So if the jets push the plane forward with respect to the ground, there will be airflow over the wing, meaning there will be lift, meaning it will take off
>>675387895
This is wrong
>>675382082
Point it the other direction and you'll have what an aircraft carrier does.
>>675388548
NIGGER, TREADMILLS CAN'T MAKE AIR GO FAST, AIR GOES UNDER THE WING TO PROVIDE LIFT, AND YOU SHOULD AN HERO
>>675388375
Air needs to flow over both. Refer to >>675387634 otherwise wind would just be hitting the bottom of the wing and nothing would happen. The force that is lift is caused by the slowing and speeding up of air. Because there is lower pressure above the wing helps just as much as adding higher pressure below it
>>675388915
KYS
I think what people are getting mixed up on is the direction of the treadmill. If it is moving forward then the plane will possibly take off - equate this as the plane having its wheels locked to the treadmill belt. It will gain velocity relative to the air and pissibly take off.
>>675386954
Do you even principle you fucktard?
>>675382082
the engines will still need to run to make power for it, still, if the treadmill runs at the same speed as the plane then it can take off in no distance.
>>675382082
there is no air flowing around the wings, therefore it won't take off
>>675388947
As a flight instructor I give this man my endorsement
>>675382082
If everyone in the plane just lifted up on the bottom of their seat, the plane would rise up into the air vertically and you wouldn't even need wings or engines.
ITT everyone assumes OP means treadmill. He siad use a THREADMILL. Completely different . Of course it works. Read the actual words cunts.
The Engineer speaks.
>>675389195
>>flight instructor
>>doesn't understand thrust
Kill yourself
Airplanes don't accelerate with the wheels, they accelerate with their wing-mounted engines. It doesn't matter at all how fast the plane is moving against the ground, only how fast the plane is moving against the air. a plane will take off on a treadmill (not that one, the wings won't fit through) but the treadmill will not help at all and will probably only hinder the plane by making the wheels spin far faster.

>>675389848
It's the same principle as a kite except the threadmill winds the thread quickly enough that the plane is able to develop enough lift off the wings to take off.
