I need a gun. I live in a shitty part of town with my gf, and it's infested with herion addicts. I've also been approached twice in the last month by people who were making an attempt to lure me to two different areas. I'm a pretty big guy, but that shit doesn't matter when someone has a weapon. I don't know shit about guns. What should I get, and where the hell do you even go to get one? Also, what is a general price for something decent?

Glock 19 - $500-550
>>
>>675337513
Do guns like this retain their value for the most part?
>>
Don't buy one.
People who admit they know shit about guns shouldn't buy one until they go to a range, try some out, and feel comfortable and trained. Otherwise, you're more likely to have an accident or have it used against you.

Once up to speed, I recommend a bobbed hammer .38 revolver. Doesn't get any simpler, nor more reliable for a 'fuck you' self defense gun.
>>
>>/k/ is a good board to go for this kind of stuff
>>
I have a question. If you live in such a shitty part of town why not just move far away out into the country of a small town? Seems like you don't have much holding you to that place.
>>
>>675337513
So I have to agree with this even though I personally hate shooting Glocks.

A Glock will never let you down. It will go bang every time. It's uncomfortable (for me), but it's cheap and it WORKS. So yes. Glock 19.

>>675337980
Eh. Used pistols hold value *okay*. You shouldn't look for a self-defense weapon based on resale value, however.
>>
>>675338396
this guy has it, glocks are ok but a .38 Smith and Wesson will never fail you, and it'll be cheaper
>>
for home defense get a remmington 870
>>
Get a .380 semi auto. Go to a gun shop, fill out paperwork, et cetera. Then unless you live in a State with Constitutional Carry, you'll have to apply for a CCW, which can be nearly impossible to obtain.

GET SOME TRAINING not just to operate the thing, but to know when and how you can protect yourself with it. Don't go brandishing the weapon like this was a movie. Unfortunately you can't just plug niggers without a compelling reason ("He was being a nigger" is apparently not good enough)...
>>
Legally? Walmart for something simple.
The latter, search CL for a gun rack. Contact the seller and ask if they have any firearms for sale
>>
>>675337193
What city do you live in? I know bad cities I live in fuckin Chicago
>>
nah man, gotta get a pipe bomb. always reliable.
>>
>>675337193
Scared of your world + knows nothing about guns = don't get a gun.

Get a cylinder of Bear Mace. If you fuck up shit will be LULZ, not prison.
>>
>>675338610
My girlfriend owns the house here, and we are planning to move, but we're having a baby so that put moving on hold for a little bit. Honestly, it doesn't matter where I live in this general area, they all have a huge herion problem. I live in a part of the US with one of he highest drug problems . It sucks, but we both have pretty good jobs and that's hard to just walk away from.
>>
>>675337980
Glocks do.
>>
>>675338655
I was just curious, because I've seen them in pawn shops and people that sell them online and it seems like the prices are around what you guys have mentioned.
>>
>>675337513
this.
>>
>>675338698
A hammerless stainless J frame D&D chambered in .357 cost about $700 you could probably get the glock cheaper but you'll more than likely accidentally discharge it.
>>
>>675339027
Newport, across the river from Cincinnati. I know what you mean about Chicago. My dad grew up there. Some places there are fuckin rough.
>>
>>675337980
Most decent brand guns, kept in good condition retain value. One of the few items that do.

Just remember to your gun...clean and oil, but not too much. Keep the action smooth, etc... and don't use shit ammo. Cheap ammo can be corrosive and ruin a gun.
>>
Get a 1911 45acp

If you take care if it, resale value will be almost the exact same as initial purchase

Best gun for concealed carry as well

When are you getting your cc permit?
>>
>>675338396
Don't listen to this guy.

Watch some YouTube videos, buy a Glock, store it somewhere locked up.

Get whatever you can, ASAP.

could you be more wrong
>>
>>675340094
No, it's thin, easy to manage, and I've never had a jam in over 600 shots

>>
>>675339990
Glock fags everywhere.
Listen, I'm a range master. I know to too many morons who accidentally discharge the hair triggers on glocks. Poor choice unless properly trained.

>>
>>675340564
The "hair trigger" word choice shows that you are clearly no range master, or at least don't know glocks.
>>
>>675341498
Sorry, the 5 lbs trigger pull, which is ridiculously light. Better faggot?
>>
S&W 1911 E-Series, The Cadillac of pistols IMO
>>
OP fag here. A lot of good input. Sounds like the consensus is to get trained on one first so I don't shoot my dick off on accident. If I do, I'll be sure to post pics
>>
>>675341498
There is a reason most police departments upgrade the Glock service pistols to a 10 pound trigger pull.
>>
>>675340564
This is bait.

Go fuck yourself, faggot.
>>
>>675340564
>>675341730
Considering most glock owners that care anything about guns go for trigger jobs or aftermarket triggers. You sir, like your point, are invalid.
>>
>>675337513
Not this.
>>
>>675340564
A Glock 22 was my first gun. I've owned and used it frequently for over 10 years. I own a bunch now in different sizes and calibers.

call your local gunranges, some will rent guns for relatively cheap so you can try them and experience different styles and calibers. I personally wouldnt go below 9mm so yes I agree with glock 19 or a 38 revolver. Keep in mind if you have to use your gun in self defense there is a good chance it will become evidence and can be very hard to get back. Expect to spend around 3-400 for a 38 and 500 for a glock. Another nice option is a M&P shield as they are small and thin so they dont print as much (show shape through clothes) for warmer weather clothing like tshirts

Bitch u srs?
>>
It's hard to really go "wrong" when picking a handgun, as long as you know how to use it, it'll put holes in bitches.

whichever gun you get, do it legally and get a concealed carry if at all possible. if someone tries to mug you, and you shoot them with a legally purchased weapon, the DA can't even really press charges against you. one less lil bitch in the world, and you walk away.
>>
>>675337193
Never buy a used gun, OP.

1911s are overly complex and large. I wouldnt even want a compact 1911 as ccw. caliber determines effect, not style of gun. You can get 45 in compact if you want it or a 357 snub nose. Why fuck with a 1911 outside of range time
>>
>>675344276
For concealed carry I prefer the 642
>>
>>675345913
"Overly complex"

Wut

Seriously what the fuck are you talking about?

It is a highly reliable, easily serviceable gun that won't jam unless you are trying to make it jam

Just get one of the short barrel variants if you are a manlet

Yeah because getting your gun back after you use it to defend yourself should be priority
>>
>>675339381
302 ?
>>
>>675345913
They're large but they're thin. My full size 1911 conceals much better than my G19 because length is less of a factor when you're 6'1". Also, 1911s aren't complex at all (field stripped you're talking about, what, 9 parts?), its a pretty simple design thats very reliable IF you maintain it and spent the money to get a good one.

I fuck with a 1911 outside of range time because its heavy enough to make recoil from 10mm extremely manageable, because I like the feel in my hand, because I'm accurate with it, and because it conceals well on my body. Other people's mileage will vary, this is why we go to the store to fingerfuck and then pick what we're best with, no?
>>
>>675347051
It is if your a 300 lb neckbeard. You could carry it in one of your folds and use it if your cheap Chinese katana breaks in combat with a water bottle.
>>
>>675344374
He's the qwizatz haderach
>>
>>675346812
not manlet 6'3 215lbs... overly complex meaning the backstrap, safety etc. you dont need all that on a ccw. all you need is a simple revolver. You cant get any more simple or reliable
>>
Go to range and rent a few OP. Don't get a 1911 for a carry weapon.
>>
>>675347378
it is if youre a dumbfuck who used a $1200 sig sauer or something and are now out all that money and have to replace it. Go back to fumblr you bleeding heart faggot

JESUS CHRIST, THE GUY ASKED A SIMPLE QUESTION, DON'T GET NIT-PICKY AND AUTISTIC ABOUT DETAILS AND PREFERENCES.

Also, Good luck OP, you seem like a nice guy, have a great day.

Also, fuck nigroes.
>>
Just get a desert eagle, trust me, it one taps in csgo i am global elite i would know. Make sure to not spray and give around 1 second cool down for maximum accuracy .
>>
I have zero knowledge about this.
Can you guys explain, in 17 words, the difference between a pistol and a revolver?
>>
>>675340094
>>675342922
>>675345913

Idiots. There are many sizes of the 1911 platform, in .22LR, .380, .38 Super, 9mm, .40SW (rarely see them), and .45ACP.

Small frame to full size too, and no, they are not that complex, unless you're a complete fucking retard. Glocks and 1911s are both reliable guns, but the 1911 has more weight and more accuracy than a Glock. They feel way nicer to shoot IMHO.

All up to you though
>>
>>675337193
Springfield xds mod .2 9mm or 45 acp. Barely any kick and dead accurate. Super concealable too.
>>
>>675342922
>>1911

>Bitch u srs?

My EDC was a 1911 for years and I never had issues. Of course, I also managed to carry an AB-10 concealed. One of the joys of being an Amerifat...
