how will no mans sky be
>>675156725
Awesome, and I personally can't wait for it. What's really cool is that it comes out the day before my birthday
Giev for xbox one plz
>>675156725
Will be getting it for sure.
Will be fucking god-tier. Been following it for what seems like a lifetime, comes out on June 21st in the US and I honestly can't figure out what to do to pass the time till then.
>pic related, it's a screenshot of one of the in-game races you can meet
>you won't know a species language until you learn it, only a word or two here or there
Minecraft with spaceships and no mines.
>>675156725
Already pre-ordered it.
There are about 18.4 QUINTILLION planets in this game.
If you were to visit every single planet in the entire game for one second each, it would take 500 billion years to see all of them.
>>675156725
it will be an amazing exploration game but as for the idea it will let you have massive fleets and players ruling worlds then waging war on other player factions it will fall apart. the game is just to big for that to ever happen since the odds of running into other players organized at all is zip
if you just like exploring get it but if you want pve, pvp or the whole faction building then its gonna be a let down
Been following this since 2014, do you watch Cobra TV? He's got pretty good coverage on the game. As for the game itself, I'm excited. It looks a lot like elite and Minecraft in one game, with an interesting world to explore.
>>675158051
why would I want to do that
Just hype for a game that will not deliver what it promises
another shitty sandbox that gets boring after 2 hours
>>675156725
It will surely deliver
online fuckheads will ruin the multiplayer
>>675158186
because that is the point of the game. to explore since who ever discovers shit gets there name permanently placed on it
>>675158129
The game isn't about building factions or pvp. It's about exploring and survival, not about building an empire. So many people are getting worked up about this and I don't see why.
I don't say a call of duty game sucks because there isn't enough sword-play. Why are people complaining about game mechanics that it isn't even intended to have?
>>675156725
I'm excited to play it but there's no telling how well it will deliver. I'll assume that it will be badass until I check it out and find otherwise, though. Fuck the haters.
>>675158470
but what's my motivation to explore? there can be a trillion trillion planets but what're my reasons for wanting to visit them
and why bother putting my name on shit if there are so many planets that nobody will ever see it
>>675158391
The universe is so insanely huge that your chances of running into another player at random are less than 1%, so much so that it's effectively zero.
>>675158533
This.
Honestly it's going to be shit after you play it a few weeks.
The only thing that could make the game a huge success is the modding community.
If the devs support the modding community and make it easier for them...
Then it has potential to be the greatest game ever made.
>>675158051
>There are about 18.4 QUINTILLION planets in this game.
...and every single one of them is a dull procedural location, like a Nethack level, except without interesting things to do in it, because they have to be unchanged when you leave them, since there isn't storage anywhere for the changes.
>>675158839
Sean Murray did mention something about that, I think they'll support it
From outer atmosphere to landing takes 3 seconds.
No.
I get the hype, I get why some people are excited, I get it I get it.
But no.
>>675158745
You explore to see unique planets and life forms, all of which are procedurally generated and completely different from one another. Additionally you collect resources from an in-game periodic table of elements which you will use to upgrade your ship, space suit, and weapon.
The one and only thing i care about is if the planets have some sort of intelligent lifeforms in quantity on them
>>675159149
But what's my motivation, what's my goal, what am I aiming towards? I can see unique planets and lifeforms by googling "cool aliens". And upgrading my ship and weapons is cool if, and only if, that's actually useful. If I'm not aiming towards anything then why bother upgrading my shit?
>>675158924
Changes to the terrain, which are all almost fully destructible, will be stored locally on your console/pc. If you leave and come back, it will be as you left it.
>>675158774
it'll happen. They'll kill you with superior weapons then fuck off and do it again
>>675159149
>all of which are procedurally generated and completely different from one another.
This one has green mushroom trees and angry bear people, but this other one has blue coral trees and friendly horse people.
Procedural world generation is so amazing! Everything is samey and nothing has any depth! No artist put a moment's effort into any one of these worlds! It's fantastic!
>>675159411
The galactic center
>>675159411
You're aiming to get to the center of the universe, the nature of which is still not explained by the developers. As you get closer to it, planets and creatures become stranger and more hostile, so you need more suit upgrades to survive. Additionally, you need to upgrade your ships warp-drive to be able to travel the distances required to get there.
From what I've read it can take anywhere between 20 and 40 hours of straight-line flight to get there. All the while, there is lore, trading, space combat to keep you busy along the way, so if you don't go as the crow flies it could take 40 to 100 hours of gameplay
I won't hype it because i'm sure i will be disappointed in the end. I hope that you will be able to investigate more about the individual biotopes of each planet otherwise it would be pretty boring
>>675159748
>hurr durr stop liking what I don't like
game will fail due to its own size and the fact that the multiplayer elements will be pointless since in all likelihood you wont ever see another player
>but my exploration
if the game was only for exploration then sure itd be good but it is not an exploration only game. they want players to mingle and form factions and do all that awesome stuff but how the game works it forces them not to.
I expect a random content walking-simulator. There are some weird features but nothing making your jaw drop.
there is no such thing as a good exploration-only game, it just doesn't exist and inherently can't
>>675156725
This game just sounds too good to be true if you know what i mean?
itll automatically match many people to some starter planets, and you can meet up on ships/other planets with ur friedns
>>675156725
Far too ambitious. I'll pick it up because I love space pilot games, but I have low expectations.
>>675160641
>they want players to mingle and firm factions
That is literally not at all what they want players to do, considering the fact that you can't do that.
Maybe if you knew shit about the game you could day whether or not you would like it (which, many people wont), but to spout false information and then claim the game will be shit just proves how much of a shit-eating mongoloid you are.
The fact that it's randomly generated puts me back... even if it has so many possibilities I feel like every single planet will feel the same.
Also I don't really understand how the game is supposed to work... everyone is on the same universe and there's a (really small) chance of finding one another? is it only single player? it does not have storage anywhere? it has local storage? I didn't understand how the game works :/
>>675161214
>mad your preordered game is gonna suck
>fly around space
>find planet that was generated 5 mins ago
>explore planet
>find new planet
Rinse and repeat with some space battles mixed in for good measure
Imo repetitive af but if minecraft can be successful, anything can
>>675156725
not buying right when it comes out. but very interested in it and hearing about it. will buy depending on what i hear when its actually released.
>>675161006
False. This is not going to happen, devs have said there is no matchmaking in this game. There isn't even a voice chat feature in it.
>>675156725
I'm kind of exited for it. Go to wait a few weeks to see how people review it, but so far it looks like it will be fun
>>675156725
It will fail to meet almost all expectations. I think it'll be fun, but everyone thinks it's gonna be "THE BEST!!!" but who knows.
>>675156725
It will be overhyped, but not terrible most likely.
>>675161378
only 3 people can be in an instance together (this was said in an interview)
>>675161297
>The fact that it's randomly generated puts me back
This, pretty much. The game is going to feel very tiring after a while. This is why I've never been able to get into rougelike games; the procedurally generated environment will never have the same care put into it as one designed from the ground up.
>>675156725
gay
>>675160341
Look, No Man's Sky contains quintillions of worlds in the same way that Minecraft contains infinite worlds or FTL contains infinite universes. Every time you start a new Minecraft game, it's a "completely different" world.
But starting a new game of Minecraft doesn't give you a unique new experience. Rather it's just the same stuff rearranged randomly. This is what procedural world generation is like: all of the interesting stuff is manually built into the game, and the procedural system just shuffles it around.
There's only going to be a modest amount of interesting stuff, and each interesting thing is going to be copied with minor variations to trillions of worlds so most players will see some variation of it.
You haven't seen it, and I haven't seen it, so don't fucking tell me this is some, "I don't like it so you're wrong for liking it." thing. You're buying into bullshit hype. You're going to be disappointed.
I'm not even saying it's going to be a bad game. I'm saying, stop believing this nonsense about each world being unique.
>>675157617
it'll almost be as big a dissapointment as bloodborne, fallout 4, star wars battlefront and MGSV were for me
please at least wait for reviews anon
>>675161796
This.
What will be the main point of this game? Just fly trough some galaxies and watch the planets? Is there a plot? Or any point?
>>675161297
Each planet is generated according to an extremely sophisticated mathematical algorithm. A set of numbers determines the color of the grass, whether the atmosphere will be toxic or boiling hot, whether the terrain will be mountainous or oceanic, whether it will be lush and full of life or barren and lifeless. There are so many variables that the combination of each set of numbers leaves for a virtually limitless amount of possibilities.
This same system applies to life forms, ships, weapons, factions, etc. The combinations are endless.
Changes to a planet or faction are stored locally on your console, as well as certain number variables relating to planets you've visited. Which is why there is such a huge number of planets to go to. Your system doesn't need to store the entire planet, just the number variables that make it what it is and whatever changes you make to it.
It's not going to be for everyone, but for me, it's the space exploration game I've been waiting for ever since I was a little kid. I could care less what the lackwit 12 year olds say about it not having enough explosions and it not being similar enough to some other triple-a piece of shit they've played 1000 times before.
>>675160094
you just described the goal of the show Stargate universe not that there's anything wrong with that
>>675159411
To find a hot alien waifu
>>675156725
Shit. Praised by PS4 fanboys with nothing to else to play, and PC faggots with too much time on their hands.
>>675161796
Comparing it to minecraft is exactly what makes you a fucking mongoloid. Minecraft genius is in its simplicity. Moreover, it's procedural aspect is nowhere near as diverse or complicated.
See >>675162406

What this guy said.
>>675162406
That's what we're told, but until I have the thing in my hands I won't believe that it's that complex.
>>675162879
So you'll continue talking shit about something you know nothing about. That's cool, I remember when I was 12 and everything sucked.

I feel like I'm one of the few who actually misses the ID system that was here a few years ago.

>locally on your console
will be a shit over hyped game with an randomly cycling shades of the same colors of gameplay
good games require art direction and manually scripting for single player but this is just some lazy af hype that doesnt even have mp
its like that other space game from kickstarter or whatever the fuck that has a cult dumping a million(s?) into some over hyped universe replacement shit that will never deliver close to what they advertise
video games are shit ive been playing them for far too many years to know they will live anywhere close to any amount of hype generated
like i dont get how people find enjoyment of out games like skyrim where they put a thousand of hours of it in less than a year.. sometimes half a year.
shit is insane i don't get it mp games where you have people being the randomly generated variable keep shit interesting and fresh also give it the slightest chance of lasting more than a few months
tldr fuck hype esp for sp games
gonna have a fat fucking j to go with the purchase of this game when it comes out

Dark souls 3 will pass the time beautifully
>>675163873
>lazy af
>af
That's where I stopped reading.
>>675158224
they don't promise a lot. the are trying to keep the hype down constantly.
>>675158774
Same with Elite Dangerous. May not have trillions of systems, but having 400 billion is still rather impressive. I rarely, if ever run into any other players unless I'm near starting or noob systems. I imagine it'll be the same way with NMS.
>>675162728
>Minecraft genius is in its simplicity.
Minecraft is lego. Nobody would give two shits about it if you couldn't build your own elaborate stuff.
>>675162406
This is not something new in space exploration games. It's the same old thing of having each world described by a few random numbers. If you use the same seed, the random numbers come out the same every time, so you can have a large consistent universe just by writing a few lines of code.
The difference here is that, in addition to the small number of relevant variables (environment, presence of dangerous aliens, resources available), they have a larger number of irrelevant variables, which make the trees look different, put lakes in different places, make the fish different shapes, etc.
You're going to learn pretty quickly to look past the irrelevancies. You can't really sit long and stay interested in a random fish generator.
There isn't any deep, interesting interaction going on in the procedural generator. It's not like these worlds are allowed to sit and actually evolve. They're just randomly decorated, and you get chased away from them after a brief visit.
>>675158533
because there are a lot of morons in the world

This is the only argument I ever hear for this game. >2016
>Still not knowing that quantity<<<<quality
I bet you go to the sahara to look at every grain of sand
I think this game will fade away in a month. I have been looking for a reason to like it and couldn't find any.

This has gotten to that point where the Hype is so high that it wont live to expectations.
Just like Fallout 4 but worse. I was super hyped aswel, but It's better to not be hyped and turn out impressed than the opposite
>>675160094

I'm a professional game programmer. I've heard them talk about how they're doing what they're doing. This is what it is.
There isn't some magic algorithm to generate quadrillions of rich, compelling worlds. Instead, you have artists, writers, and level designers make a few tens or hundreds of interesting places to visit, and then you use an algorithm to scatter them around randomly and dress them up differently in superficial appearance.
