Hey /b/, im looking for a good RTS game. Im relatively new to RTS games, I have only played some shitty ones like Halo Wars and some flash games when i was younger. I wanted to get Grey Goo (Pic related) but it has terrible ratings, even though it looks fun as fuck. I would prefer something taking place in either the present or future, I'm not really into building 4 chariots to raid a village. Also something not entirely graphic intensive, because my shitty laptop can barely run games like TF2 at medium graphics. I tried Deserts of Kharak but it wouldn't run well. Also something preferably under 20 dollars

Command & Conquer, War/StarCraft, Rise of Nations/Thrones&Patriots expansion, Rise of Legends, Stronghold I&II, Anno series, Supreme Commander I&II & Age of Empires series. Ran out of time/ideas that came to me quickly. Using those games to find more will get you a gud stert

Starcraft: Brood War was my shit back in the day. I don't play RTS games any more, though. I should start back up, my brother got me into them when we were kids and we were always fighting over the PC lol. It turned into fist fights many times
Kinda miss Diablo 2, too. I know it's not a RTS but those two games made up a lot of my childhood gaming. Baulders Gate 2 was the shit as well

Command and Conquer favorites are tied evenly between Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge, Generals/Zero Hour, and Tiberium Sun/Firestorm.
WarCraft is really only 3 and Frozen Throne. Tried to get into 1 and 2, but just like Red Alert 1 and C&C Tiberian Dawn, just because their old and "classics" doesn't mean their good, they just set some standards.
StarCraft is just about everything, but Brood War was absolutely 10/10. SC2 was an excellent series, even though what Blizzard did to Diablo 3 is so heinous I couldn't enjoy any other product released by Blizzard. inb4 not the same dev team. It's the principle of the thing.
Rise of Nations/Thrones and Patriots, Rise of Legends are all underrated RTS games imho. They just came onto the scene and didn't get the recognition because people 'moved on' from RTS and were too busy jerking off over WoW, Oblivion and Crysis and other look wut muh rig can du bullshit AAA titles, or simplistic FPS/Action RPG drivel.
Stronghold is pretty much everything except Stronghold 3. Firefly tried to get into the gud grafix game and fucked up horribly. Stick with 1 and 2, and the amazing modernizations of Stronghold 1 (HD & Crusader Extreme)
Anno 1404 & Venice and 2070 & Deep Sea are easily my favorites, but 1707 and 1602 are excellent as well. I'm trying to like 2205, but ymmv.
Supreme Commander I was alright, but the expansion Forged Alliance brought changes that should have been in the base game. The community mods for SC1 & FA is where the magic is, though. SC2 and Infinite War brought some nice changes, but I personally still like FA better.
Age of Empires II HD (Modernized rerelease and includes the Conquerors expansion) is pretty self-explanatory. This is the quintessential historical RTS, but Rise of Nations (developed by many of the same AoE devs) is a superior realization of Age of Empires that, imho, bests it buy allowing you to progress your civilization into the modern age.
