Because, by acknowledging that atheism is a lack of belief in a higher power of any definition they would also have to acknowledge that atheism is a belief that no higher powers exist, which is faith.
Atheists are hypocrites and are intellectually dishonest. The real path of reason is agnosticism, which is where you abstain from forming an opinion until evidence is presented of which there has been none due to the nature of deities.
