Any chance of fitting a 2nd data drive or SSD in my laptop
>>674678221
Riddle me this, Fido: where the fuck do you think it would go?
>>674678221
just get larger capacity drives you knob
>>674678402
Waa thinking an ssd for OS and a data drive for general shit
>>674678221
get a new laptop you pleb. Lenovo g505?
meh
>>674678221
Remove cd drive, swap for sata tray.
No, you can replace the one in their though
>>674678541
Did I ask what you thought of my laptop? Its for school dude Im not trying to game on it
>>674678524
what this nigga said >>674678541
not really great to start with, plus there is no space for 2 drives.
>>674678651
Interesting, thanks for the tip
>>674678809
they are 7$ on newegg very easy to install.
>>674678524
its a laptop, not a desktop
>get a cheap large capacity hdd
or
>expensive large capacity ssd
or
cheap ssd & cheap external hdd
>>674678221
ever hear of an external drive? wtf do you have that takes up so much space?
SSDs are at least comparable to HDDs in price. I'd suggest spending the money on a large SSD, and possibly an external HDD for back-up/additional storage
also this >>674678651
>>674678524
Get a wireless external drive.
>>674678221
No, there is literally never any chance of fitting any extra equipment inside a laptop you colossal mongoloid fucktard. You can replace an identically sized component with another, more advanced one, but that is all. Ever.
>>674679066
Oh no I dont hold much, the drive currently is 1tb which is way more than I need anyways. But Id like to maybe upgrade to an SSD without having a storage limitation, thus two drives
>>674679277
>upgrade to an SSD
Why do you think that's an upgrade, exactly?
>>674679277
so what is the question
>he drive currently is 1tb which is way more than I need anyways
>Any chance of fitting a 2nd data drive
>2nd data drive
>currently....which is way more than I need
>>674679553
Bc I use it for school and itd be nice if it worked faster
>>674679277
then just save up for a single SSD, it may take a
while to save but worth it imo
unless you have the hardware knowledge to take
out the CD/DVD drive (and no use for a CD
drive,..)
>>674679673
Solid state? Faster read/write, thus not having to wait 20 years for it to boot and take forever in loading?
>>674679842
It'll only load things faster that are stored on the SSD. You could get that with ReadyBoost and a flash drive. Or a RAMdisk for select applications. Or preloaders for certain things, like LibreOffice. Besides that, it won't work any faster.
>>674679842
>work faster
>ssd
lolwut
if you want the computer to bootup faster and for programs to start quicker than sure, get an ssd.
>>674680017
so what is your question. we know you want an ssd.
hey /b/, i want an ssd.....that is all
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=1tb+ssd&N=-1&isNodeId=1
OP if you have another computer you could use it as a cloud to store all your shit on it. Currently I use a program called Tornido. It lets me store as much as my desktop can take.
>>674680449
>cloud
Don't use words you don't understand.
>>674678221
Why not buy a hybrid drive? Use the SSD portion for OS and other important things and use the other side for the big shit? Cheaper than a huge SSD and will at least boost load times for OS. Does the laptop have a CD drive? I can't really tell. If so, they do have kits you can buy to fit SSDs in that slot.
>>674678221
>>674678524
>>674679277
bruh take your sorry ass to /g/ and get your shit worked out. Also, if your a student then why bother spending good ramen money on an SSD or HDD
>>674680604
The Cloud is basically a hard drive you can access over the internet.
>>674680727
The point of a hybrid drive is it uses it's solid state capacity as a third cache level and file usage monitoring to improve cache hits. If the solid state part goes bad, which they do all the fucking time, you still have a working physical disk, unlike with an SSD, which will just die with no warning at all with no chance of recovery short of backups.
>>674680982
That sounds way more clunky and annoying than just carrying around an external hard drive....
>>674678221
Just get a larger capacity HDD and stop falling for le ebic SSD meme
>>674680982
It is not.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_storage
>>674680333
Sorry, my terminology is off. Ik that an SSD cant make a computer stronger in any way, but for school the only upgrade I really need is speed and loading, thus SSD. It has an a10 APU and 6gb which is fine for all my shit i gotta do.
Im not dropping $300-$400 on a 1tb SSD btw
>>674681431
the only speed that you will see is bootup time and maybe programs starting up a few seconds faster. that is it. web pages will load 0 seconds faster.
>>674680810
Last time I checked this is the random board so Ill post this if I want, or do you want another cancerous trap thread in its place
>>674681431
>the only upgrade I really need is speed and loading
>6gb
https://www.softperfect.com/products/ramdisk/
Anything you put on a RAMdisk will be loaded into RAM once at bootup, and load instantly, programs and regular files.
>>674681871
So is it just not worth it then in the end? Still to this day I havent used an OS on an SSD so i thought I'd give it a go
>>674678221
If you just want speed you might want to look into A: more memory, B: a better CPU, C: SSD, or D: USb that allows ready boost
>>674681871
>web pages will load 0 seconds faster.
uBlock Origin can speed up webpages by blocking large media elements now. It's pretty spiffy. I've been enjoying it.
>>674682570
Oh yeah it can, have it currently on this laptop
>>674682072
its only worth it if you
>dont care about money
>love >15 second boot times
my last windows7 setup took about 1.5 minutes to fully load, and firefox took about 10 seconds to load.
2011 Intel SSD dropped it to 15 second boot, firefox starts instantly. thats it
>>674682570
i prefer hostman.
maybe not as good but it does disable all known ad sites.
>>674683199
I was thinking higher-end samsung 850 PRO (not EVO)and not the mid-end average ones
>>674678221
Might fit if you remove the fan...
Can't hurt to try.
>>674683199
>hostman
That's just a HOSTS file editor. It uses blocklists. uBlock and uBlock Origin both do that too. You could even use the same lists, if you like them so much, and enjoy all the other features, like finegrained controls, element picker, and blocking media and font loading selectively by domain.
>>674683654
yeah i know, but its rare that i need to use an element picker. ill never use font loading or media blocker (flash/html5 is set to "ask to activate")
i like it because its almost no footprint.
said before but ill say it again, it is very easy to swap disk drive for an ssd
you should look into it
>>674684267
You could have no footprint by just editing your HOSTS file manually. And as full featured blockers go, uBlockO is probably the leanest you'll get. It can block ads loaded through the same domain as the content you want using element hiding rules in the AdBlock syntax, which editing your HOSTS file cannot do.
>>674684535
Don't worry, I will, seems like a pretty good workaround
>>674678221
Faggot, a Lenovo with 4 GB of ram... fucking pleb, my 5 years old laptop came with 8 and an i7 octa core processor.
Bitch ass nigga
USB to SATA cable.
