/b/, what's the saddest/most depressing/thought-provoking movie you've seen? That one movie that stains your mind for a few days or weeks after. That "otherworldly" movie you think of every now and then.
The Wall, it's just got that something that makes you think
>>674655065
This anon knows
bump w one of my fav animated movies
>>674655065
hm, never heard of this, I'll look into it even though i'm not really into musicals or pink floyd
Miracle Mile 1988
The Road is probably the most depressing film I've seen so far, or perhaps a more "standard" option like Requiem For A Dream.
>>674654899
The Bucket List w/ Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson
Really fantastic
any "heavenly/otherworldly" movies like The Fountain or Enter the Void?
>>674654899
>saddest/most depressing/thought-provoking
That's tough, man. Trying to think of one that hits all three of those superlatives is hard. Sad movies don't always depress me, and the ones I find thought-provoking are (even if they're somewhat sad) so stimulating that I often don't think of them that way. I'll have to get back to on that, OP.
>>674655549
I've seen both, they're both great, i need to rewatch the Road again
>>674655602
Great movie
>>674655654
Okay, how's this, not necessarily sad or depressing, but at least thought-provoking or even transformative.. You felt like you weren't the same person after watching. Know what I mean?
>>674654899
Waking Life so much. I've watched it like 30 times. Amazing movie about life, dreams, and death, and everything in between. I found a lot of meaning in it.
Schindler's List gives me the feels.
Irreversible was pretty messed. Especially how they end up >spoiler (killing the wrong guy at the end/beginning) < spoiler
Anyone know any romance movies that are really alternative/out-of-the-usual-genre, like Lost in translation?
>>674655934
looking into this, thanks anon
at the end when there's this endless list of all his friends dead by overdose
>>674656075
Try eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Pretty heavy
>>674656541
Seen it, loved it, def in my top 10 movies. I'm looking for more like it
>>674656788
Garden state wasn't really heavy like that but is also one of my favorites
>>674656901
Haven't heard of it, looking into it, thanks
>>674656068

>>674657361

>>674657361
Nobody is looking for indie bullshit, we just want to watch good films.
For some reason Hannah left me with a sad feeling
maybe because at the end it's a 12yo girl who has lost absolutely fucking everything
>>674654899
Clockwork orange. Always makes me think about how predatory and vicious humans can be inherently and how manipulated we are as a society. Damn you, kubrick, you genius bastard
>>674657361
You sound like the type of nigger that would watch that movie where they make bread out of vaginal yeast.
>>674657777
>Illuminati quad

>>674657777
Blessed be my quads
>>674657787

"It's Such a Beautiful Day." It is the only movie that has ever made me cry, and it made me cry hard.
>>674657787

>>674655840

>>674658127
Do you know where you are
>>674657990
The only movie that i actually sob uncontrollably in is click. Yes, the adam sandler film.
oh also, vanilla sky is a pretty decent movie
only seen the one w tom cruise tho
>>674654899
>>674654899
Ex Machina I think was pretty thought provoking. The ending at seems underwhelming at first but after a few days once you digested the movie as a whole it makes you think.
If nothing else its worth watching the great sense of discovery in robotics it offers.
Most depressing, Secret Sunshine. 2007 K-Drama, and nothing good happens.
ETV and RFAD were already mentioned, besides that The Secret Life of Walter Mitty really got me out of my shell at the tine. Still does.
>>674658348
thanks, will check out :)
>>674655609
Mulholland Drive. In a very different way.
Donnie Darco also somewhat.
Downfall.
>>674656075
this movies a straight 10/10
>>674658544
bumping mulholland drive
I know I'm a fag, but probably the Butterfly Effect. I fucking love that movie.
Mamma Roma of Pasolini.
>>674654899
American History X made me cry like a baby everytime I've watched it.
La Haine made me cry twice as hard.
But I think the most depressing, shocking movie I've ever seen was called "Incendies"
>>674656075
Santori Time
>>674656075
"The film's plot tells about the difficult romance between a mildly mentally disabled man who has just been released from jail after a two and a half year sentence for involuntary manslaughter and a woman with severe cerebral palsy"
>The Room
Its not that deep but pretty thought provoking. Never seen story telling like this kinda like a spoken word poem if you think about it. And its on Netflix so even better.
>>674656075
I was let done by the Dialogue in lost in Translation and also by Scarjoe's acting which I usually have no problem against.
Alternative romance:
Mr. Nobody
My Sassy Girl
Deadpool (kek)
Un long dimanche de fillancaille
not so alternative but one of my favourite romantic movies: Russian Dolls.
>>674658149
Dreamy!! That's the word i'm looking for, i'm trying to find these "dreamy" type movies

The Green Mile made me feel
>>674657361

>>674658325
This movie was amazing, there seemed to be a bandwagon going around saying it was overrated which prevented me from watching it from a while but when I did.. wow, amazing filmography, very simple and not too over the top and just the general atmosphere of the movie was amazing.
>tfw its so hard to choose a movie to watch I just end up never watching anything
I don't know why, but unless I'm somehow completely sold on a movie, its hard for me to start it because I always think if its really worth the time investment.
Which it really isn't a big investment, just a few hours, but I don't know why I think like that.
>>674659433
Thanks bro.
>>674654899
Braveheart
Its fucking deep man
I'm not sure these quite fit in but they influenced me heavily:
Children of Men
28 Days Later
The Pianist is my favorite movie of all time by a long shot and a half
OP here, so so far these are the movies I've added on my to-watch list:
Waking Life
A scanner darkly
Garden State
Water Lilies
The constant gardner
It's such a beautiful day
Any more dreamy movies like Enter the void or LiT? I know i'm kinda switching up what i'm looking for here but it was hard finding the correct word to describe these moves
come at me bro i dont even care, the deep unspoken sadness of this movie still haunts me
>>674660127
Seen both, Children of Men was amazing and you just reminded me that i need to rewatch soon
>tfw my movie is never listed
>>674660347
the holy mountain

Sorry to hear that anon. Would you tell us what it's called so we can watch it?
>>674660530
lol
>>674660019
Was their a hate bandwagon? I just went into it blindly because my Dad recommended it to me. Very great film. I agree the filmography is really good. The acting was top notch too, its not wonder those 2 actors went on up to become actors in Star Wars.
Its not a movie for everyone, its slow paced, but for people that can enjoy something more though provoking, its for you.
No mention of jagten????
fight club
>>674660556
Max? Wat
>>674660560
>>674660628

10 Cloverfield Lane
>made me realize how weak i am psychologically
>>674661564
Was it good? Thinking about hitting the theatres for this one
>>674661059
It's actually quite different specially the ending, as in the book he chooses a life diametrically opposite to his previous life and in the movie you can tell he's digging back the old cane.
>>674661092
Oooh and Grave of the Fireflies and Akira.
>>674661875
Have seen GotF, was depressed as fuck for a week after. Haven't seen Akira, adding that to the list, thanks anon
>>674661564
Made you wanna kill yourself? Do it fagget
>>674662089

>>674659544
Great animation and voice work, but the differences from the book pissed me off.
>>674662011
Yaah it was fucking depressing, we really hurt those nipons a lot.
Just a daily reminder of how barbaric even the most "Advanced" civilization turns out to be in the end.
a movie about failure
God Bless America
Visioneers
Straight up 'lovely bones' hits all the criteria
>>674662801
Shit, my absolute nigger.
This movie.. this fucking movie. One of my favourites.
There's a somewhat similar movie called "Eureka" you might like.
>>674663021
lovely bones has a bad metacritic rating. are they just a bunch of dumb niggers?
>>674654899

>>674654899
Mary and Max is one of the few movies that truly moved me
>>674663358
Seen it
>>674660530
Great film.
>>674661772
Kubrick had the American copy of the Burgess novel, which excludes the final chapter. In that chapter, Alex decides to reform. Both are good even if radically different in the end.
>>674663193
lovely bones was a complete failure on every level, it was the beginning of the end for peter jackson
>>674662801
>>674663162
OOoH NO Watch a movie called "Spoorloos" exactly your type of movie.
Swear you guys should all take my recommendations seriously because I have seen every single movie posted so far in here.
