Oh, weird. Couldn't tell from the fish at first, little too blurry. The water lines at the top tell me it probably isn't a new tank, but why is it so sterile looking? I don't even see any healthy green algae anywhere.
Also, that stuff looked like marine-style live rock, threw me off. I love fish tanks, but moved recently and don't have my battle station set up yet, just my fish tanks. Pro marine at the moment, sold it as included with the previous house because moving a 250g tank half built into a wall is a fucking nightmare.
I'm excited to get another marine tank set up again, but right now I just have a couple easy planted fresh tanks

There is plenty of algae on the rocks now, it took ages for it to come in. The guy in the tupperware was being picked on by the other fish. He was fine one day, then the next he had most of his fins gone and was half dead. Put him in the tupperware for 1.5 months and was about to rehome him when he jumped out of the tupperware and the other guys killed him in under an hour.
Cichlids are pretty messy, I like to keep it simple and clean. The algae on the rocks has come in heaps of different colors now so it look pretty sweet. I don't have any good photos recently, only a couple I took on my phone. I'll see if I can find them.

Awesome dude, thanks for the info! Sorry to hear about John C. Fishy, RIP. I used to keep cichlids as well, but managing aggressives in marine AND fresh got to be too time consuming. Now I just keep tetras, shrimp, algae eaters, etc in my fresh. Marine used to be amazing, had a massive snowflake eel that was hand friendly. He was so tame that I kept some foxface, triggers, and clowns in there and he wouldn't touch them. Fucker was so spoiled, he only ate fresh tiger prawns, refused to touch anything else lol. I miss him, but he's comfortably living at the Scripps La Jolla aquarium now in a nice big tank with other eels. They send me monthly updates, super nice people.
