ITT: The case for lurking.
I haven't been on this website for as long as a lot of you. I maybe only lurked for a month before making my first post.
I hear some people talk about how they lurked for like four years before even saying anything. I don't understand this. I feel like the right thing to do is to get into the culture, say the wrong things, and feel it out, rather than sitting back and observing for that long.
What would you guys say the pros and cons of lurking are, and for that matter, lurking for such a long time?

In a nutshell. Lurking is used to build lingo and inside jokes and pic collections. Thus when you actually post, you leave no nuance that you're a newfag. Plus the effort to collect your own materials to post with is basic of basic ass rules bitch boy. So never make a thread like this. You'd know better if you lurked longer.

benefit of lurking: you don't say stupid shit revealing yourself as a newfag, as in when you don't get obvious in-jokes that have been repeated for years.
benefit of not lurking: you get to enjoy conversation. any "embarrassment" you suffer in a completely anonymous forum is meaningless.
I've been here for 8 years and don't give a shit if people start posting right away. I'm not the fucking posting police. There's enough posts here that you can skip over the ones you don't like.

Hey atleast OP waiting a little while before churning out some shit called an "opinion". Most assholes (typically from reddit and are underage) will come here and blurt out anything they feel like and say it like its fucking law. This is why newfags are told to lurk more. One it shuts them up (mostly) second of all it might reduce the amount of retarded stuff.
Not saying we're a bunch of super serious n SRS bzness smartyfags but now and then i see people who act like a retard and are serious about it too. That or they're good at holding a retarded character.

OP here. Exactly, it's not like I shitpost at all. I like to think of myself as a relatively intelligent person who would be able to enjoy and contribute to threads. It just feels weird doing nothing but sitting and watching.
I suppose it could be like the same idea as how some scientists say it's a bad idea for us to broadcast our presence to the universe. All those who are listening may not be friendly. Maybe it's best to just observe a situation before choosing to interact with it at all.
Who knows though. This website never was supposed to have any rules so whatever.
