Maybe I'm just mentally fucked, but I understood her and the position she was in.
Take it into context.
She was adopted and had no real idea what a family was. She loved her parents, but they were mean to her. (They locked her in a cage and fed her grass.) She tried to lock them up too to make them see what it was like. However, she FORGOT to feed them. It wasn't her intention, she just didn't know.
When she captured Yuki it was an act of overprotection. She truly didn't want to hurt him, she just wanted to keep everyone else away so he wouldn't be killed. She didn't trust anyone, and that's reasonable considering everything that happened and all the people that betrayed Yuki. She didn't know that she was being bad.
As for the sadistic part, she really only killed for survival. It's not like she tortured people. It's the survival games, it's what she had to do.
Keep in mind the whole time she never knew what 'normal' was. She never had a normal life or a family. She didn't really have a reason to live until she met Yuki. Yuki was the only thing keeping her mentally stable.
It's like you guys didn't pay attention to the story or understand psychology.
