"friend" gave me a nugget and a pipe to smoke out of. Ill be using a camping lighter. it looks pretty sticky and smells very strong. is this good? how will I know when i'm high. how much should i smoke the first time?

Just do it and stay calm. Unless you're a complete retard everything will be fine and all you have to do is make sure you don't act like you're fucked and blow your cover.
