also went to a friend's new year's party and was the only one who showed. his fiancee and a bunch of their mutual friends ditched to go to a different party, and two other friends canceled (one was sick, the other idk why). we drank all the booze and ate a bunch of food and laughed at the shitty singles ads in the city pages or whatever (minneapolis lifestyle magazine). had a blast anyway. but I don't think he and his fiancee lasted too long after that.

When I was 16, I had a really close friend named Carson. We used to play Pokemon and and beyblade. We were nerds I guess. I started to shift crowd groups, I started playing football and kinda drifted away from him. On his 17th birthday he invited me to his house for a party. I was going to another party, and was guarenteed some sex. The next day I found out that nobody had showed. His parents found him with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest in the field behind his house. I went to the funeral, and got stares from all of his family. I feel like they blamed me. Once they opened the casket I just fucking lost it. I just fell right there over the casket and cried my fucking eyeballs out. Now it's a couple years after and I've gained a fuck ton of weight, lost any kind of social life, and have a shit job. I still can't believe I did that to him.

I volunteer my time on the weekends going to spend an hour or two with elderly people in my local area who don't have anyone and are isolated. When I was a kid I declined one or two parties and went to one or two parties with a "third" friend. We laughed it off when we made the decision to go, saying things like "well it's free ice cream and food and free play time at the laser tag place". But that's all kids care about when it comes to others because they're too immature to realize that's the only reason people come to THEIR parties.
People never look out for each other. I mean those parents who saw me say things like that could have taught me an important lesson about being social. But people don't give a shit. What we are seeing in a lot of these pictures is kids that where sabotaged by their parents i bet. You know the Freudian Oedipal Complex where the son wants to kill his father and marry his mother? Its not supposed to be taken that literally, what it looks like in reality is often mothers who do everything for their kids so they do not develop autonomy and independence. If the parents hinder their kids development of independence then the kids will be dependent upon the parents for the rest of their life so the parents don't have to die alone. That is kind of like "marrying your mother" in a way.
