the cream matters a lot. i'd use not store-brand or chemical creams, and the brand i use is called "every man jack."
i take a hot shower and wash everything i intend to shave well with soap, then i shave, either in the shower or out. i take another hot shower and wash everything with soap again and exfoliate areas i felt like i shaved badly. i PAT DRY WITH A CLEAN TOWEL, PAT DRYING over RUB DRYING is really important, but probably the most important part of all of this is the aftershave; i apply witch hazel, which is a low alcohol content organic disinfectant, then coconut oil over everything, and then i wear clean clothes.
in typing this all out i realize how enormously fucking homosexual i am.
but really it is not as tedious as that all sounds once you do it a few times.
