though i didnt keep they addresses written down, i knew which houses were shitty tippers and i would usually eat some of their sides before i delivered. Usually a handful of fries or a few wings. Sometimes just pulling toppings off their pizza. Or deliberately deprioritize them.
Weirdly enough my best tippers were frat houses. A lot of them had $5 minimum tip policies. It gave them an air of superiority, as well as made us drivers get there extra quick.

I gotta say that for me at least it was different, i wasn't making minimum wage but just below it at about 6.50 an hour plus tips but then again, i also made pizza's, boxes, scraped pans did the dishes made sauce/ranch and even dough in the mornings. They have make minimum wage. Its a federally regulated issue. In any state where your base hourly wage is less than the federal minimum wage + tips, you -have- to be compensated by your employer to meet that amount should your tips not bring your hourly wage up to the proper value. Former delivery guy here too. Although I never fucked with or stole anybody's food, as that would be both disgusting and morally wrong; I would inevitably deliver fastest and priorotise the best tippers. I didn't expect people to tip though or ever ask for 'plus tip' or any of that bullshit.
The wage where I was working was pretty low after paying the tax man. The extra I earned from generous people's tips more or less paid for the petrol that I would use.
On top of that there is also the insurance (extra for business use) and the maintenance. Racing your car round as fast as you can and continuous starting and stopping all the time really fucks your car more than you would think.
I always give around a 15-20% tip. Especially if the food arrives really quickly and consitently. If the food or delivery time aren't up to scratch it is the fault of the establishment, not the driver. The punishment in my house is that the resteraunt gets put on the back burner and I won't order from there for a few weeks/months, depending on the severity of the offence.
If an establishment gets 3 strikes within a short time period their menu gets ripped up and they are blacklisted.
