I'm a LaVeyan Satanist myself, but to be honest I can't really be sure on the legitimacy of Anton LaVey after hearing all those things about him, that he prayed/apologized to God before he died and shit.
However, I do agree with the philosophy that we are our own gods, and that we should be in total control of our own lives.
The whole Satanic rules of the earth and the commandments and shit, those are all pretty much common sense, with a few exceptions probably. LaVeyan Satanism is purely based off irony, to spite Christians.

Not OP, but an atheistic satanist here, The idea that you can summon Satan/Other Demons, stems from the idea that unlike god, Satan isn't a deity. Biblically, Satan was an angel before he fell from heaven, and the angels can appear in physical form in the christian faith; the only difference seeming to be that the angels deliver messages from god, whereas you summon Satan to deliver a message/request to him.

Satanism is a philosophy at best.
There are Satanists that believe energies exist in our world and they can be properly channeled by intense invocation of demons or "the old gods." The reasoning behind it is that just like gravitational waves exist that have effect on us but are not felt or seen, there are energies that if properly meditated and channeled, will be directed to however the caster manipulates it. Sounds silly right? What is truth is that the first religion to exist in humanity was to serve humanity. A religion that tells us to protect yourself and the ones you love because no one else will do it for you. To kill your enemy utterly for he will do the same. To protect women and children because they are weak. And it teaches us that the weak will perish. This religions god was baphomet. The Christian and Catholic Churchs didn't want a religion that taught free will and self reliance so they bastardized it and said Satanism had rituals like the Black Mass (wiki) which made it unpopular. Then crazy people replicated it, and to this day, phycos still give Satanism a bad name. It's not magic, worship or religion. It's just philosophy. That's why I consider it Baphomy not Satanism. Good question. Well, my problem is that other religious voices become oppressed. Especially here in America, Christianity is king. Statues dedicated to Christ and the Bible can be erected, no problem. But other beliefs? Many Christians see that as an attack.
What I want is a pluralistic nation, and world.
