I do not believe our scenarios are identical. As I aged, specifically going into high school, I began to leave my popular friends behind because, little did I know, I was leaving that life behind. As for society's egalitarian viewpoint, I think it's flawed because it does not promote self fulfillment. Egalitarianism is a worthy principle, but not one that is realistically achieved. People just simply aren't equal, no matter how many ways you look at it. Some people are strong and dumb, others are artsy and poorly coordinated, less are truly intelligent. Some are lucky enough to be blessed with so many incredible traits that they breeze through life without a single worry. There's no real way to rationalize it. Egalitarianism is a myth to make people who are born lesser accept capitalist society for the way it is. Those of who get this just have to let others believe the lie because this is the way the world should work; people living up to their potential, no matter how lucky or unlucky they are in life.
