Hey, /b/. Are you crippled by feelings of your own worthlessness, knowing that you'll probably never do anything that actually matters? (Don't lie. If you weren't you wouldn't be on /b/.)
I know its true for many of you, but what if I told you that there was a shortcut to making your life meaningful? You're probably rightfully skeptical, but fortunately for you... there is. Unfortunately there's no shortcut to being happy. I can't promise that. But if you live a more meaningful life, happiness will probably scale up with it.
I'll give a short explanation about how this works. most people are bad at math. They tend to assume that most actions are semi equivalent in terms of effect. But the truth is that that's not true. An entire lifetime worth of being generally nice and an "upstanding citizen" might be positive, but the truth is that there simply is in fact things that can outweigh a lifetime worth of general niceness in one action. So the "shortcut" to being a good person is simply knowing what actions those are. Makes sense so far?

This is known as "effective altruism." Since I have limited space to explain, the short version is that although many charities are nigh worthless, there are groups who study to find the most effective ways to spend money earth. Knowing who to fund, and giving them even a moderate amount of funds is so effective that it outweighs anything else good you could ever hope to do by an order of magnitude. This means that merely knowing about which ones are the best, and giving them even a relatively small amount of money from time to time pushes you to the most good (in terms of effect) 1% of people on earth. There really is a shortcut if you happen to know it.
