/b/ is cringe, very much so. When i think of someone who calls them self a /b/ tard, or a lurker, I think of an edgy and over the top, or just overall cynical twelve to fifteen year old boy. On the other hand, I can also see them as people in their twenties that live in their basement and try to earn Internet street cred.
This is all really stupid, but there is the occasional gem to be found. Overall, 4 Chan, and, more so, /b/, really is cringe. However, it is a self aware cringe for the most part, and the times it gets off the rails, it either gets blown up into a comedic act, or it gets silenced by competent people who know better.
This is the difference between Tumblr and 4 Chan. On Tumblr, you have an image, cause anonymity is never going to give the users the attention they want. On Tumblr, awful views are rarely ever called out, and even if they are, you have so many fans and supporters for the worst people, that the views and attitudes are seen as great. If you call someone a faggot on 4 Chan, it is a Tuesday night, and nobody bats an eye, as it is just an empty word. You call a Tumblrina a faggot and apparently you are a CIS, racist, fascist, patriarchy loving shit lord whose opinions and actions are immediately discarded, and you are then labeled as a villain by the Tumblrina and many of her cult following.
/b/, hell, 4 Chan in general is cringe, no doubt. However, 4 Chan is a self ware, well maintained cringe compared to the cesspool of IRL cringe that Tumblr seems to admire, respect, and award.
