i always carry a blade with me, OP. i carry only the most practical and fine blades. i have had cops hassle me several times for different reasons while carrying those blades, and have always had them returned and always will, because i carry and conceal them properly.

I mean, sure, they cut your vegetables and they whittle your wood, but beyond those specific uses, there are always better alternatives.
I carry those folding mini-scissors. They are smaller than a knife, just as useful on the street, and legal wherever metals are allowed.
For combat, I carry pens. Compared to knives, they have the same reach, are cheaper, are completely legal and not suspicious anywhere, and are just as harmful when striking the face and neck.
For home defense, I carved my own wooden sword with a metallic tip. No need to surrender my wallet to Big Steel when I can make a passable alternative for less than 1% of the cost.

I carry a Ka-Bar semi assisted lock blade clipped on my belt every day. I have a tomahawk sitting on the shelf next to my front door. I keep a machete in my bedroom closet. On my work truck, I carry a saw back machete for clearing standing saplings, and thick brush from my work zones (maintenance ground crew on high tension line towers) and a hatchet for chopping and cutting ropes, and small gauge wires. Edged tools can be both weapons, and mundane tools.

I have two Ka-Bars. The other isn't pictured. One of them is general out door use. While the other is the designated carry.
The Obake is an excellent boot or neck knife, for when I can't bring the Ka-bar.
The SOG on the left is used for small word work when outdoors. It's new so it hasn't been used yet.
The Carnivore X will see some use next hunting season.

It's a machete. The center of balance is SUPPOSED to be far down the blade. It adds momentum to your swing, and makes hacking through brush much simpler. As far as the handle goes, a little bit of grip tape works wonders for that shit.
