More or less all military hardware is designed for that purpose. In fact the Hetzer was designed to survive, to hide and ambush armour. The sloping sides give it a chance of deflecting any shots should it be seen. As a 'practical killing' machine it's immensely less effective than, say, a bomb or an artillery piece.

The East Front was fascinating in that so many countries that are forgotten helped invade the Soviet Union. Romania, Hungary, Finland and even Russians who opposed communism helped the Germans. These soldiers I believe are Croatian. I can't read German but that's the Croatian flag on their helmets.
