The main things are:
Hallucinations, both auditory and visual. Although the visuals are less common.
Severe anxiety and paranoia attacks, often unprovoked. (These also cause hallucinations)
Bouts of mania and depression with large portions of "numbness" in between.
The occasional catatonic attack.
There's more, but those are the big things.

i've had a traumatic event a couple of years ago, and started hearing voices. coulndt really understand what they said. i just heard distressed and angry whispers, plus wheeping. Yes, they're quite similar. They're both psychotic disorders. So they both suffer from psychotic episodes.
The main differences are that Bipolar is more of an "emotional" psychosis. Always either depressed or manic.
Whereas Schizophrenia almost always has all emotions removed. Except for neurotic emotions, like anxiety, paranoia or fear. But, the manic-depressive cycle is also present in Schizophrenia.

I have taken quite a few different medications I feel almost like taking the meds makes me angry. I don't know the real reason for my outbursts. They are usually short lived and I am over "it" quickly. But I leave a path of destruction behind me. I may very well be just bipolar, but I never really gave the auditory hallucination any attention because I just brush it off like it didn't happen but it happens quite often. It is usually negative and always directed at me. But they are usually muted but coherent. not just a jumble of words. I also have other emotions like I love my son so does that exclude me? I do find it very hard to empathize with others or love others in the way I do my son. do you feel happiness or love?

Hi anon. I'm diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder which I'm aware that it's quite different from schizophrenia. I also haven't read anywhere that schizophrenia can manifest from SPD, but I feel that scenario may slowly be on the way for me. I'll occasionally hear quiet talking, but I'll hear a loud bang like a door closing quite often. Very rarely I'll see some shadowy type figure in the corner of my eye, and even more rarely directly in my FOV. What are your thoughts on this?

There's some papers floating around that say SPD is the "precursor" to Schizophrenia.

Those aren't good signs, Anon. It could just be intermittent psychotic episodes, it could be something more. I would keep an eye on it. If you notice things getting worse I'd recommend seeing your psychologist.

I probably still wouldn't take it. As most people with some abnormality would not as well.
The reason for that is quite complex. It goes a little something like "If I remove part of who I am, then who am I?"
The notion of a perfect life doesn't exist. But, this is my life. I couldn't have it another way and still be me. It's just not possible in my mind.
