A professional programmer uses what ever language they need to in the context of the project at hand. If you can only handle a single language, and especially if it's VB, I've got bad news for you, but hey, keep on learning. You certainly should pick up another language before you go on applying to any jobs, though remember, knowing a language is just knowing a tool, not the craft.

damn. thats a golden quote there. thanks anon!
but to answer your question, i know other languages. HTML, CSS, i have messed with php and sql and also batch files. feel like im being pressured into learning C# even tho i think it may be a waste of time seeing how i know vb and they are basically the same. what do you suggest? python?

Depends on what you would like to do. Python is a good all-around high level language - you can make desktop apps with it or use it for shell scripting instead of bash/batch scripts. For webdev, javascript is probably the first thing you'll need, though knowing python or another scripting language isn't bad there either. If you're interested in mobile apps, Android uses Java (though you can also do native code with the NDK using C/C++). And if you want to make high performance applications, you should learn C or C++. Maybe try thinking of a project you would like to do, figure out which language's the most suited for the job, and then get it done - that works for me when learning a language at least.
