Read up on Trump's life story. He went to a ton of banks and got some of them to issue loans to him based on his name alone. He IS a good dealmaker, in person. But he has always had large chunks of money to work with. It's possible he actually does have the skills needed to rise up from nothing, but we'll never know, because Trump has always had hundreds of millions of dollars to work with.
There is growing speculation that he is still in debt, even now, and that his debt is simply more spread out, but it's unlikely that this can be proven in his lifetime. So long as he can pay off his most pressing loans using money gathered from new lenders and profits from his successful ventures, he can keep kicking the can down the road until after he's dead.
